Buying Clothes Which Aren'T Tiny Petite Thai Sizes?!

I seem to be having trouble finding clothes that actually fit me here in Bangkok? I wouldn't call myself overweight but I'm definitely not skinny and petite like a lot of the Thai women here.

I'm a total sucker for fashion but I can't seem to find any real nice clothes that actually fit me! It's mainly my lower half I'm having problems with as I unfortunately have quite a large ass!

Anyone know anywhere, specifically in Bangkok where is good for nice clothes for those who aren't petite? Say 34" hips?

(My apologies if this should be in the Bangkok forum, I thought seeing as I'm lady asking for advice on fashion, the ladies forum would be the best place)

Hmmm...have you ever thought about custom tailoring? That's generally what my family does. Given the cheap price of labor in Thailand, it is not that expensive. Yes, Thais are generally "petit"...but everyone kind of gets larger when they get older, including my aunties and uncles. Alot of stuff they just get tailored either from scratch or other store bought stuff made larger. It may be more difficult to get the modern fashionista stuff tailored, but I think it is doable.

I just can't think of where to buy larger Western sized clothing for women. It is easier for men for sure, but sorry I don't know of a place where it would be easier to find stuff for women.

it's hard to buy 'off the shelf' in Thailand...I have a 15 y.o. thai niece and she is not petite and I wanna buy her a levi jacket as I believe that it would set off her good looks...she's about 5'2" and levi jackets are expensive...she'd knock 'em dead with her levi jacket, schoolgirl bob and serious demeanor...

What I've seen - the cheaper style stuff in places like mbk platinum tend to come in small sizes

In the malls you will get a bit more varying sizes

When I say malls it need not be only central or paragon type places as these are rather expensive brands

Try robinsons

It is possible to find larger clothes in Platinum fashion mall there are a few "large women" shops but not sure if they may be too large!

I have a friend with big feet, she's not very tall but she's got big feet and she says she asks the lady boys where they buy their shoes.

if you like second hand, you can often find "normal" :D sized clothes in these markets as most of the clothes come from overseas. chatuchak, or the thieve's market near khao san, or some nights (i don't remember which) near the democracy monument.

There is another alternative, though it's not pretty. Could always go down to Kao San and pick up them "Thai fisherman pants". Those fit everybody. The only hitch is you have to wear a tie die T-shirt and put your hair in dreadlocks.

Yeah that's not quite the look I'm going for. ;) Guess I will have to starve myself, lose some weight and squeeze into the Thai sizes...

Yes, you might want to try Platinum and MBK, because I myself is quite large on the bottom as well but I can find what I'm usually looking for at both these places because they tend to cater to the farang market more.

You've gotta be kidding me! You're only at 34" around the hips? I'm at 37" and I think I'm just a little over average size, I was thinking I'd be able to fit into their large sizes there. I love my fashion too, but I can see it is going to be a pain in the butt when I move there. Time to diet?

You're young like me so you wanna wear all the pretty fashionable clothes! I have found a few but it is pretty difficult! I am dieting to get it off. I want to be 30-32" again!

I can wear clothes here...but it has to be size L. Back home I could wear size S or M! I have gained tons of weight since I came here (10 kilos....not to say that I didn't need to gain some weight, but now it's a bit over the top...) I've been attempting to exercise everyday...but it's just so dang hot and there are no gyms around here. Question...why do I never see any Thai women running? I might see them ride a bike...but not running? I want to go running...but I don't like sticking out like a sore thumb!

34 or 37" hips seem slim to me, I'm a 42" hips, I always feel large over here, in the uk I feel like a normal size! I only come over for a couple of months a year so I normally don't bother buying clothes either being told 'no have large' or having to buy a 2xl seems alot worse than a 14-16 back home!!!

I've had some good experience in buying clothes that fit in my "worst area", i.e. the hips which means they are W-A-Y too big in the shoulders. I simply bring those clothes to my dressmaker for alternations. She's very good at making the parts that are too big smaller, but definitely can't make the parts that are too small any larger.

Sometimes I've bought something that was way too small if I liked the style and it wasn't too expensive. Or I've borrowed clothes I like from a friend. Then I take it to my dressmaker and tell her I want her to copy the garment, only in my size. She can work from photos, too, although it's better when she can take a look at how the garment is constructed.

This is a pretty good idea but time consuming and a lot less practical than buying a garment and then throwing it on for a party etc.

I have just started taking dieting pills from Boots. They're called "Night Time Trim Time" and are supposed to help your metabolism. (they're buy one get one free in Boots for 980B) I obviously go to the gym also and I'm taking steps with my diet but yeah...

So frustrating that many men can eat what they want but I eat some food and it goes straight to my ass and hips! ermm.gif

As SBK said many Thai women drink various cleansers/diet drinks

For perhaps a cheaper alternative to those pills you bought

my wife swears by Fitne Tea sold at all the markets. Big C etc.

Very inexpensive & as I said she insists it works.

She makes a cup every night lets it cool then drinks it.

The only review in English I saw online is here

http://voices.yahoo....ast-825739.html

But, I would caution you to go slow at first. My wife turned my sister on to it & she kind of overdid it

like the woman in the article.

fitne is not a diet drink per se, it is a laxative drink, so I guess your body just doesn't absorb any nutrition

Is it possible for something to go in one end & come out the other without your body absorbing what was nutritious in it?

I do think it is possible that we do carry too much waste in our intestines due to constant intakes.

I once fasted for 15 days & yet had a bowel movement everyday. I know a woman who fasted much longer & had the same results.

That does make me wonder. about our systems ability to rid waste in a timely fashion.

That article I linked said this about the active ingredient,

The back of the bag says that each 2.65 gramme tea bag contains 1500mg of Senna leaves, 500 mg of Senna pods, green tea leaves, and 150 mg of Garcinia Atroviridis. Garcinia Atroviridis is a hydroxy citric acid, which is a natural substance that is extracted from the rind of the fruit of the Garcinia Cambogia tree. It is apparently non-toxic and has been used for generations for appetite suppressing and weight loss.

I was curious as my wife drinks this so I also looked it up & found this article interesting. Although it is just an experimental test on animals..

http://thescipub.com...ptsp.2010.65.70

Personally I have never used it & prefer drinking some form of psyllium husk fiber at bedtime.

Having done so for some 30 years now I feel it has benefits

Unfortunately, yes - at least to absorb only a few percent of the nutrition. I have a 5 year old nephew who has a very rare medical condition - only one doctor in the UK specialises in it. Poor little thing is always hungry. Mum had to put a lock on the kitchen bin last year when she woke up in the middle of the night and found him rooting through it for anything edible - locks were already on all all cupboards, fridge and freezer. He's tiny, less than the size of 3 year old sister, but I've noticed in photo's that now, as he's growing (slowly) his head seems out of proportion for the rest of his body - I imagine it's a normal 5 year old head size. I suppose this will continue as he gets older, as there is no real treatment.
