They do sell Frogs at the mushroom restaurant. But as H/M has stated/warned all in the past it's at best over priced Crap. Must say though 100% better than eating that cold rubbish sold in the first Big C in N/S it also doesn't have hoards of flies and bug's flitting about.

Have been passed several time's lately and it's always empty looks like there are peeps in there but that's only because they park their own car's in the car park at the front and sit at the front to look like they are doing some sort of trade.

Cunning ploy but it doesn't fool H/M.

If you want great Thai food just go passed the Mushroom on the Tak 1 road through the T/lights go to the left side of the bridge and take the small left turn just before you go under bridge and 50mt later it's on the right next to the river Delish, great food and half the price of the Mushroom.

They seat over 100 peeps and at 7pm every night it's always full of local Thai's must tell you something.

H/M.

I remember the warning as your description reminded me of a much maligned management style. It was called 'Mushroom Managemet' a technique where employees were kept in the dark and fed with bullshit. It was referenced many times.

I associate toads with toadstools and frogs with lily pads. So, I would be very wary of a place that sold mushrooms and was confused on this issue.

Thanks for the tip but Kamphaeng Phet is a little off the beaten track for us. We go South via Nakhon Sawan and would travel to Tak via Sukhothai.

Sounds a bit like H/M feeding bullshit that is. I must say in my defence that everything I put in is 100% factual though most is a bit tongue in Cheek.

The Mushroom has one redeeming thing about it, it sell's preserved wild Mushrooms Mr's H/M said they are rare to get but they are pricy.

Going via N/S to Tak seems a long way round to me must be quicker up the 1 you also cut out the traffic in N/S and Pitso but up to you as they say.

You've mis-understood me.

Firstly:

The content of your report/warning about the 'Mushroom Restaurant' stated that the place was 'dark' and the food was bad (read, dark and fed with shit). Hence my association with the maligned 'Mushroom Management Style,'

Never thought I'd need to explain a Brit joke to a Brit.

Secondly:

I live North of Phitsonulok. So, why would I use any other beaten track South, or to Tak for that matter.

Thirdly:

Why did the mods delete 'confused' and not 'bullshit' earlier?

I thought you lived down near N/S and thought you were going to Tak via the roundabout way.

Don't ask me why the mod's change things about they do what they like it seems. Not unlike the colonists picking us Brit's up on our language beetroot and not beet for example.

Just got time to put a few American bit's in, Yard instead of Garden, Shrimp = Prawns shrimps are small prawns by the way, Lox seems to be smoked Salmon??? and their saying while they are commenting on the third most boring sport in the world Nascar racing the term Straitaway instead of just the strait.

Oh what are the first two most boring sports I hear you all ask well Baseball and American football not necessarily in that order.

"shrimps are small prawns by the way, Lox seems to be smoked Salmon???"

I don't know who taught you American English(s), but there is no such word as "shrimps"! Shrimp is shrimp whether there is one or 1000. The plural in American Engilsh is shrimp. It seems that the Brits add the extra "s" to male plurals of words that are already plural such as Math, fruit, etc ((maths and fruits - fruits are gay people, not 2 oranges)). Small shrimp are bay shrimp or just small shrimp. Now if you go to the south and order "crayfish" and expect to get the OZ variety, you're in for a rude awakening. You'll most likely get a big bucket of crawdads or mudbugs cooked in crab boil about the size of your middle finger. They are usually dumped in the middle of a table with newspaper spread on it. You break them in half and eat the tails and suck the heads.

As far as Lox goes, I'm half Swedish and grew up with my Swedish born grandparents and it was always called lox. Different types were available, but "belly lox" was the best. Only became familar with it being called smoked salmon when I started travelling to Europe. Can't remember what it's called on the breakfast menu in the Castle Hotel in Windsor, but "lox and eggs" is great for breakfast, also "kippers and eggs" but that's not scrambled eggs with a KKPite sitting across the table!

As far as the condition of the highway coming from the north, I always thought they they were speed bumps to try to keep the KKPites away, but should know better as they continue to come since it;s something else to whine about!

Have heard and had the Swedish Gravadlax notice not Lox and delish it is too but that's cured with salt and dill salmon, not smoked.

Shrimp, if you ordered shrimp in England you would get just that a small shrimp brown or pink in the singular eaten with all the heads and shell, not enough to share if your sitting across from the upper crust's in K.P.P.

Never had Kippers and egg's but scrambled egg and Smoked salmon/Lox top notch with a glass of champers first thing in the morning is the bizz.

We have a problem with 'American' crayfish in Blighty now they are killing all the local ones, only problem they wont let you catch them don't know why Bloody crazy if you ask me. Not to dissimilar to how you colonist have altered the English language. Regarding the 's after a word to make it plural not unlike your away after strait that you seemed short of answering.

Yes must admit not a bad ploy with the road surface in N/S only problem we us upper class/crusts don't have an alternative rout/route so we are buggered.

You will notice H/M has put in a few bit's 'or is that bit' of American just to keep you happy.

At least my post gave you something to tap about while your waiting for the beast to arrive.

H/M has just you'll all be pleased to hear booked his ticket to go back for his trip to Blighty to visit the new grand child that will be arriving on the 6th May ??? I'm going on the 18th May but don't get to excited will be back a few week's later.

Actually I never remember having gravadlox. Lox was smoked salmon the same that you get in a Jewish Deli. Anchoivies were "tinned" in oil and whole with bones in and had to be fileted before eating.

Speaking of strait and away why do your sports announcers always say the name after they have already made a statement? He just made a fantastic goal, Wayne Rooney! Everybody knows who he is as they are watching the game why do they repeat his name?

As far the beast is concerned, it is somewhere between Japan and China.

But what a cop out! I told you that the reassembly party would be sometime in mid May and what did you do - You called your son or daughter and told them to have a baby so you wouldn't have to get your hands dirty. I only ordered the beast 2 months ago, so isn't the little one a little premature? Hope that he/she doesn't come out looking like your avatar.

I've downloaed the 1922 page technical/repair manual and am working on an assembly plan so I'm keeping busy.

Your jumping the gun some what the beast arriving mid May, when at present it's somewhere 'Ware' between Japan and China.

Then it's got to get out of China on to BKK and out of Thai customs and up to your place.

H/M think's you'll be lucky to get it by the time I'm back mid June then I shall be ready at the drop of a hat to pop along to give you a hand.

So get the ticket printed I shall of cause be expecting a complementary front row one with free food added, and none of that cheap left over stuff from your wife's Restaurant. I would also like to have a deluxe room in place at the local hotel pre booked, a pretty lady organising my nightly massage would be rather nice, anything else you can come up with I would be obliged.

1922 book I think we could have a slight problem if the beast is that old. Not in proper English is it I would hate to have you pay out for my translation of same.

Keep us posted on how thing's are going delivery wise I will have my laptop working in Blighty so can keep abreast of how thing's are progressing. You mob in N/S might get one or two post from there if your lucky.

Actually it's scheduled to arrive Bangkok on 27 April. It's now in the Taiwan Strait and has a coonection in Hong Kong before seeing the sights of Singapore on the way to Bangkok. The connections and arrival times are as/more accurate than the airlines and the customs paperwork is being processed in advance as I write. I'm not using the Ma and Pa agent that the freight forwarder uses, I have employed my own customs broker, an international logistics company. We could always run into customs requiring it to be reclassified, but the export documentation from the US has the correct HS coding on it and the duty should be 5%. I'll just have to see what happens. I really think that it will be here before you leave for yor holiday.

As far as a deluxe room there's a 2 bungalow place about 4 kilometers from here called the Love Inn, a mia noi hotel. I think that they only have hourly rates but I'm sure that they can arrange a 24 hour massage by a pretty young lady or ladies!.

I charge 2000bts to massage a lovelly Thai lady plus travel expenses, Terms and conditions apply. This offer avaibale until April 23rd as I fly to Blight shortly after that.

Meanwhile it seems like the celebrations are due to kick of this weekend and as I see hug stacks of Chang/Leo waiting for pick ups I would just say to all be careful over the next 10 days there are likely to be a lot of people in charge of road machines on the road who should be in bed.

I see that the chickens are flying the coop, Dave is orf and H/M soon after.

As far a you Dave turning up to give me a massage and then having the cheek to charge 2.000bt as well I might give that bit a miss even with the aid of some sexy undies to make you look a bit more alluring I think I'll stick to Mrs H/M.

Not that she by any stretch of the imagination could ever become anyone's Mia Noi even in the love inn with the lights out.

In my defence I don't want to be a grandfather yet again as it cost to much.

And what's all this invited well we were asked first time if we wouldn't mind helping out, then it turned out we would have to pay for all the food +++ now it seems that we might have to get our hand's dirty with Nong/Dave doing the sorting out night time pretty pore show if you ask me.

Looks like I have neen exposed! I had already bought work gloves so you wouldn't get your hands dirty, downloaded the whole 1922 page Tech Manual and have started writng job cards. I was in the process of contacting a lawyer to set up and NGO so that I could get work permits for all of you so that we are not in violation of the law. Oh well, such is life!

As far as grandchildren are concerned, I don't have any and the only son is my 28 year old Thai step son whose favorite words to me are "mai mee baht" which I respond to with "mai kho jai". My wife and herd of mutts keep me in the poor house.

I posted this twice yesterday along with some other posts and they all went into George;s black hole. I guess that I must have upset one of the TV "upper crust crumbs"! I'll hit the post button one more time and maybe it will work as it's early most of the gremlins are still asleep!

Songkran here seems a bit quieter than last year, the noise starts later and is finishing earlier. I'm told there was a general warning to the village to keep the mayhem down a bit. Seems to have worked-only 2 low speed motorbike accidents on the road outside.

Absolutely p1ssed down here last night, we had rain for a good 4 hours. It has cleared the air nicely and now we can see the mountains. Mind you the rain was the only water we had upstairs since the 6 month old water pump packed it in. Ants were trying to build a nest in the pressure transducer/switch and it had ceased to function. I cleaned out the ants so now it will turn on but not off. Replacement looks to be the next step.

Songkran – Village style – The way it should be?

Unlike the way it is celebrated in places like Koh Samui and Chiang Mai, the celebration in our country village is tame and you can venture out without the fear of being inundated with massive amounts of water and other substances.

Although Songkran is officially the 13th, it was celebrated in my village on the 14th due to scheduling the monks to come for the blessing. Up until 5 years ago the celebration used to be a large event held at the temple on the 13th for all the villages but it always ended in a fight at the end of the night, the last one broken up by the BIB firing their guns in the air. At that point, the head monk decided that each village would have there own celebration.

It started early in the morning with everybody pitching in and cooking with the monks arriving at around 11am – nobody got wet. The monks did their chanting, ate, did some more chanting and then left. The villagers then ate and the drinking in earnest began. After eating, chairs were lined up and the elders sat down, me included, and they were honored by the younger folks with small amounts of water being poured on their hands and shoulders. I seemed to be wetter than anybody else. The Village chief then gave gifts to all the elders, a big towel and a new shirt. After that, those who didn’t want to get wet left and the children began to douse everybody that stayed. There was karaoke and the party dwindled to about 25, all dripping wet and on the way to alcoholic oblivion. The dancing began and everybody produced 20 baht bills for the dance troupe, who were the village children, the oldest being about 12 years old. I left and went home while is was still able, about a 500 meter walk. The others stayed until the whiskey and beer ran out.

Everything will be back to normal today, some will be a little under the weather, and preparation will begin for the incredible and dangerous journey for those who have to travel home.

Posted (edited)

I think the celebrations will on for most the week as I have seen events going on events going on until the 19th here in NS.

Last night a big storm from 1715 until 0315 today. Pylons down, trees down and flooding up to 4" in the city if you could find anywhere open to eat you had to wade. Water monitors past my house last evening, looked very bright and clean but now you have to worry about whats in the road as well as whats on it for the next few days, take care everyone.

The same storm got to us before it got to you and then went on down to Dave in Nakhon Sawan.

All the Thais who laughed at the stupid farang buying a lot of LED emergency lights changed their tune when the power went out again for a couple of hours.

At least we got the traditional family Songkran bit over before the rain, MIL first and then me. My BIL, his 3rd wife and our niece came up on Sunday and go back tomorrow.

They all went off to a temple somewhere yesterday but I declined as I didn't want to sit in a bus for an hour or so each way and then in a temple for a while. They went and I had a lazy day and a 2 hour kip in the afternoon, peace and tranquility for us all each in our own way.

Before you replace Bill try turning the screw at the top sometimes it need's a tweak or two.

Have a good trip on Thursday leave yourself plenty of time as the traffic could be pretty bad.

We had rain as well and very welcome it was too.

I think the water throwing went ok in town, H/M cant say for shore as we never get involved with any of it. Other than popping out to get the paper first thing it's a stop at home time. The 16th should see it all over with for another year thank Buddha.

That shop I told you about for new switch is now open as of today, I can if you like when your back pop along to have a tweak at your pump to see if I can get it working without the cost or agro of getting a new one.

Give me a call when your back and we can maybe sort it out.

Have a good time and don't bring me back anything to expensive you know it makes me embarrassed.

Off to Mike's tomorrow to meet up with some other chums.

In just over 2 weeks time its time for me to make my annual good will visit to La belle Francais and the Land of Roast Beef so I must bid my farewell whilst I have a beer or 2 with HM and DOE at the nearest Witherspoons.

Things pretty normal here in the Heavenly City. very busy as usual as it has a big catchment area esp from across the northern border in Hunting country where modern day luxuries are defined by a plastic chair and tv ariel, where people still run for cover at the sound 0f a motor car and people still point at aircraft:giggle: .

H/M has to go back on the 18th May must say I'm not looking forward to it, what with the temp hovering around the teens. Lamb that's the stuff I shall be sorting out + the obligatory bitter. Will keep in touch via Emails might if your about have a meet up, but I don't intend to be in Blighty for to long once the baby thing has been done I shall be booking my trip back asap, H/M usually uses EVA but might try BA for the return as they have changed their flight times to arrive in BKK just after 9am.

Did have a result the other day I have been trying to get some new glasses for Mr's H/M and at last after several years have found an optician that has all the right stuff to do a thorough eye test, must say that he seems to know what he's doing. At least it's saved me some cash as was going to go to Singapore to get them later in the year have now called that one orf.

Point on order we don't have TV aerials here we have Cable and dishes H/M has both.

Have a good trip Dave.

H/M.

Fred, Thanks for the offer of a fiddle but I've given up on the adjustments to the switch so I bought a replacement for a very reasonable 250 baht from the shop in town you mentioned. However it doesn't fit so will have to see if I can get one that does.

We brought back numerous squid, mussels, crabs packed in ice plus dried durian and other objects of unknown origin. Most of the edible stuff ( and some of the other ) has been eaten but the dried durian is still up for grabs. If you would like some just send me a stamped, self addressed envelope with a nominal bank cheque to cover GST/VAT and a nominal handling charge and it's as good as on its way to you.

If you take the original one in I'm sure they can sort out your problem have even known them to take one off a new pump and let you have that.

I can do a swap for the dried Durian I have some very old fermented fish sound's pretty fare don't you think.

It seems that different manufacturers use different size fittings to connect it to the pump. The last one that I bought had the wrong fittings and rather than drive the 200+ kilometers to exchange it I romoved the bottom from the old one and installed it on the new one. I fully expected that when I removed the last screw there would be parts flying all over the room, but it was fairly easy.

Hope I have the same luck assembling the beast that is on holiday in Singapore but due to arrive Bangkok next week. I've had my head burried in the 1922 page Technical/Service manual for the past two weeeks and have given up on trying to translate the procedures so I guess that I will really have to get my hands dirty. JD wanted $400 for the manual but I downloaded it and received a CD from a UK website for $57. It was shipped from Poland!

Yes seems pore old Bill has let a Thai clean the switch Fatal. I have sorted them before and normally with the aid of a few turns of the screw not recommended by the pump peeps as they want to sell you a new one they have all worked successfully and are still going.

Tip.

Never let a Thai do any thing to do with water or electric.

I see that the Brits have helped out the colonists yet again by saving bundles of $ only hope that he can read English other wise we the upper crust Brits might have to help with the translation.

So the beast arrive BKK next week only hope that it's not suffering with any form of sea sickness.

Update as you proceed would be nice.

Don't let any Thai's help out well only for lifting bits if one even go's near a spanner (wrench AM) send him packing.

Best of luck with your endeavors AM Endeavours English.

Update Mrs H/M has just had a call from the glasses peeps that gave her a good eye test last week, the speck's will be ready for picking up at 1pm. If all go's well she should be off to find a new H/M tomorrow that's once she has seen how rough I'm looking lately.

Could be the best 8,000bt I have ever spent.

H/M

Agree, I've fixed more than one by just turning the adjustment screw back and forth and putting it back to approximately where it was. Some of the better switches even have a second set of contacts that are not used and you can just move the wires.

As far as the manual is concerned I did save some $ by getting it thriugh a UK company but if you read further it was shipped from Poland. After many hours reading it I've come to the colclusion that some of it is written in "reverse Polish notation", absolutely possible to understand until I'm eye to eye with the beast.

I'm not too worried about the ones with spanners, it's the ones with hammers that want to put nails in the screw holes and bend them over, or worse. set the screws or bolts with the hammer. I'm sure that all of the bolts will be US sizes and the Thais will only have metric spannners. I do have a set of US sockets.
