The trip went like clockwork. 221 kilometers, 2 hours 25 minutes, two traffic lights (one on 32 at Inburi and the other ar Suk and Soi 4) two toll booths and 115 baht. I don't take 9 on the east, when I get to Bangpa-in interchange I take 9 west for about 7 kilometers where it meets the end of the tollway and dumps you right on Suk at Soi 1. I've been many ways and have not found anyway faster to get to lower Suk. Arrived home at 1400. The embassy took less than 30 minutes, ate breakfast with a friend that works in lower Suk, shopped at Foodland and stopped at Tesco in Singburi on the way back. Only one police check on the way back at the weigh station just north of Bangpa-in but didn't get stopped as the BIB were actually writing tickets for many that were pulled over. Also one fatal accident southbound south of Inburi on the way home. Motor bike and truck, guess who won!

Some of Foodland's prices are ridiculous. They had beautiful USDA grade A porter house steaks at 2150 baht/kilo. I bet they're still beautiful and still sitting in the case where I left them. I buy things such as anchovies, cheese, capers and other condiments that I can't get at the local 7-11.

The tank has shipped and I have an EMS tracking number that works but the leak has almost stopped with my quick fix. But the fridge man still remains incommunicado!

Just think in a week you'll be complaining about the heat!

The Market on Riverside Road was all but packed up on monday so anyone usuing the back way into Immigration can now do so without any hassle.

Thanks! Will be doing my yearly extension tomorrow am! I come from the south and like to avoid Sawanvitee so I always go the back way past the prison that dumps you right at immigrations parking lot.

(According to EMS tracker the water tank is at the post office but the fridge tech is still lost, no GPS implant that I know of.)

Only wish my trip to BKK was that quick it takes me well over an hour before I get to N/S bypass.

I did used to do the same as you guys but having to sort it via the British embassy BKK (Not recommended) once a year was twice a year to many, so I stuck the extra 400th in a deposit acc: in my Thai bank now sorted just a trip to N/S with little or no paperwork if it's not busy 20 min: tops.

I must say I don't know the way you go. I always go the same way via Ding Dang, bridge over Suk first left through the park (Only open early morning and late afternoon) that leads you to the top of Soi 4 opposite end of Suk. Bit of a bugger getting back onto the Expressway as you have to use a side road in 4 once sorted your orf.

Re the pump couldn't you get one from Global or the likes?

The fridge sorry to say looks like a lost cause just another reason why you always need a back up or two over here.

H/M is going to get another large glass fronted one on my return, reason is that they hold bundles of general bits. If you have the room you do seem to use it, I came to the conclusion years ago that a normal fridge is a waste of space.

They all have the freezer box at the top/bottom as good as useless, time you take out the chiller box at the top of the main fridge and the veg basket your left with bugger all space even in a large one, a commercial one is the way to go saying that if it goes wrong your in the do do's big time.

Update on Blighty damp coldish although not to bad for this time of year. The TV is just repeats no were as good as CTH. I've seen most of the programs and I'm never here.

Only good thing to report is the food, overdosing on all the bits I cant get easily over there like good cheese bread and the dreaded beef and Lamb. All set for the return now 6 days. And I wont be complaining about the heat there. My next trip back to Blighty will be earlier maybe around the start of September.

Did My first 90 day report at NS yesterday. What a great bunch they are. In and out in less than a few minutes. Took my completed TM47 but they insisted on writing a fresh one for me. Was so grateful as I thought I maybe there most of the day.

The way that I go should make it easy and fast to get to your Embassy. It dumps you on Suk at Soi 1. I turn left, but if you turn right, the next cross street is Wireless Rd. so turn right and the Embassy is right there. I left Foodland at 1000 and even with the necessary u turn at Asok I was in Tesco in Singburi before 1130.

The tank arrived today but my Rube Goldberg fix has stopped the l;leak completely so I have no intention of fixing something that's not broke./

The fridge tech finally appeared. It turns out that he was in Bangkok installing Air Con in his sister-in-law's new hotel. The problem was what I thought it was, the defrost timer, he had one in stock and the fridge is again home and I'm 1700baht lighter, but the fridge is 15 years old and this is the first failure. I have two others but they are the small non frost free variety.

Off to NS immigration early tomorrow morning to do my yearly retirement extension and get a residence certificate since my DL expires next month. The wife's going too since she needs something from Big C even though we were in Bangkok and Tesco yesterday. But it usually works well at immigration as she and the officer talk non-stop and I only get involved when I have to sign something.

Did my extension at NS this morning and got a residence certificate for my DL. I was there when they opened the doors at 0830 and was gone by 0905 with the extension, a new 90 day report slip and a residence certificate. I used the "income affidavit" method and I asked how long the affidavit was good. She told me 30 days. I mentioned that other places said 6 months and she said that the "boss" said 30 days. I didn't offer any backup financial info and wasn't asked for any. The residence certificate cost 500 baht, but no receipt.

There were only three people waiting when the doors opened, the other two were Burmese doing some kind of report. Another farang showed up just as I was leaving. Won;t have to go again until next year as I do my reports by mail.

It's been the same there for as long as I've known it 30 for embassy letter 7 days for bank letter confirming monies in same. I hope you found time to try out the local noodles Dave would have been very disappointed otherwise.

Update on Blighty.

It's for a change quite warm with temp: going up to 20c tomorrow that's today Friday by the time you mob read this.

With only a bit of rain in the last few days. But they do say that after the weekend it's going down hill big time.

H/M will be going out over the weekend with the lads for a few pint's of Bitter and an Indian curry. After that it'll be shopping, sorting out the tea bags and the like to bring back getting low on those at the mansion last time I looked there were just over 4,000 tea bags in the stock cupboard. So a top up is required rapid.

The Limo goes in on Monday morning for it's repair to be delivered back by the latest they say Thursday. At least Mum will only be without transport for a few days. Then she'll be able to bomb about putting the fear of Buddha up everyone.

Believe it or not she will be 94 in January and still drives never ever had an accident and still doesn't have to ware glasses. Pretty remarkable I think.

4 Days left now before the orf on Tuesday cant wait it's been bloody hell over here my bones are paying the price I'm sure that'll be put right as soon as H/M returns.

No noodles in Nakhon Sawan. My wife has a "noodle restaurant" about 250 meters from our house. I go to the local market every morning to pick up her order but I can't remember when I ate there last. Most of the noodle dishes that I eat are of the Italian type and are produced by me in my kitchen.

I didn't buy the tank at "Global House or the likes" because the closest dealer is over 100 kilometers away and the last time that I ordered parts from them, a tank for another pump, the wrong one arrived 1- days later and then they wanted to argue that it was correct when it was obviously not since it was missing the hole and the fitting to connect the pressure switch. Sometimes it's easier to deal directly with the "horses mouth" rather than the other end!

I didn't realise that you were so far out of N/S city.

But I have to agree with you about the service in Global or any multi store for that matter, their staff are at best clueless. I have used the one in K.P.P twice since it's been opened some 2 years and both times I have had a problem.

I spoke to the manager on the second occasion telling him it would be a good idea that instead of his staff just standing around chatting they went round and looked at what they sell and where it was situated, then when peps asked they could direct them to the right isle. This was after I had asked about micro wave ovens and was directed to the row selling rice cookers.

Question.

Why have you got a pump with a tank, what if any are the advantages of same.

Both my pumps are just what it said on the box a pump, and they both work fine. Only asking as I haven't looked into it. Have a chum and he had nothing but trouble with his tank one kept oscillating now changed it to a tank free one two years ago and all has been fine since.

Update Blighty.

As some will know last weekend the clocks went back by and hour now 7 adrift from Thailand, cant see the reasoning for still doing same 'it was introduced during the war to help the farmers so they say.

Now we only have daylight from 7am till 4,30pm then it's lights on time. Yet another thing to give all grief.

Today it's finish all the garden work for my Mother, then counting down the hours till the orf. Not going quick enough for my liking.

Without going into the pluses and minuses of constant flow vs pressure tank water pumps, the truth is that when I bought my townhouse in Bangkok I had to install a tank and pump to get water to the second floor and the pressure tank type is what was recommended and available. I've stayed with them ever since.

But I do have a constant pressure pump on my drinking water faucet in the kitchen and the biggest difference that I see is when I turn on the constant pressure pump there is instantaneous full pressure, when I turn on the tank pump the pressure decreases slightly until the pump kicks in. If I turn the constant pressure pump faucet on very little, the pump will cycle on/off quite often. When I turn on the pressure tank pump faucet very little the pump cycles, but not as often. But the tank does seem to be a weak point as I hve had 5 tank failures on 4 pumps in 15 years and a few pressure switches. I've had no failures on the constant flow pump but it is only used for drinking water.

Thank you for that bit of info, I have always fitted the standard pressure pump type one does everything, when I turn on the tap English for faucet 'only three letters' I get instant water pressure same with the drinking water via the filter set up. Must say that the drinking water is a trite slow as the thing works through a small pipe. It never effects me as Mrs H/M says it's her job and you never argue with her, just one look and it's a hospital job.

I think I'll stick with the set up I have, as you said you have had some problems with same then again so did my chum, easier/simpler the better.

Once again thanks for your time.

My pump choice was not done after an extensive research project, it was the only thing that was available from the local Ma and Pa shop near my house in Bangkok when I needed one. I've used the same ever since. The constant pressure pump that I use is an irrigation pump with a small accumulator tank and is used to pump drinking water from the rai water run-off collection system. The only thing that failed was the motor which had to be rebuilt after my wife left the "tap" slightly open when we were away and it "cycled" itself to death.

Everything is easier/simpler/better when it is working! Have a pleasant trip home on EVA! My last light was first class from LA to Bangkok via Singapore Airlines. It landed in Bangkok on 29 March 1998. I still have the return ticket. Yes it was First Class but it cost me only $13. I had a lot of frequent flyer miles since I traveled extensively as part of my job.

The best water pump is a Grundfos. No tank and it is self priming with a higher pressure outlet than the usual water pumps you can get in Thailand.

The drawback is that it is imported and around 13 to 14,000 thb compared to the 5 to 8,000 thb for ordinary water pumps. Having said that it is a far better quality pump and should be capable of many good years of service without attention.

14th I think you might have given some peeps a heart attack Bill. For a few more Bt you can buy an all singing commercial fridge.

Seems there's difficulty getting parts for the Jap ones let alone having to order from abroad. They by the way have a 5 year guarantee. Both my pumps 'non tank ones' have never given me any problems, one now well over 7 years old are still plodding on without a murmur.

Blighty.

H/M has a busy day today got to sort out the case, re the food goodies I'm bringing back then shopping for a top up.

Kippers 'smoked herrings' for lunch only 1 large one as I'm going out tonight with the lads for my pints of Bitter & Curry.

Will be staying at one of their places as drink & drive is a No No in our police state.

The weather for a change was quite warm yesterday some places allegedly were up to 24c hottest day temp: for this time of year since records began. It's going to go down hill big time as of today might get to12c with some rain.

Have finished all the bit's for Mum I have to do here yippee.

Last roast Beef delish tomorrow. Monday will see the limo going in, sorting of bits out for my orf Tuesday.

Mrs H/M has organised my cab kun Sam to pick me up from swampy BKK, light at the end of the tunnel thank Buddha.

Only 3- days to go now.

Cant wait to get some chillies and spices adorning my food.

The parts aren't hard to get, it's just getting the right ones. Also the people that need to ship them need to come to work everyday!

Ever heard of "commentators jinx"? A 5 year guarantee on a 7 year old pump won't do you a lot of good. Hope that they are still working when you get home!

I make you right I did have second thoughts about the pump after I had tapped it out.

As luck would have it I only use 1 pump now the other is just sitting there so if I have a problem all I have to do is undo 4 bolts swap them over sorted.

I have spoken to Mrs H/M today and I did ask if everything was going ok reply yes everything is working fine. Last time I was away it was the gate motor and outside light only cost mere 36th to put that right.

My Limo/Tank has been fixed and returned to the mansion now under cover waiting for H/M return.

Blighty.

Good night out with the lads last night had several beers + the curry.

This morning a complete change in the weather the rain was bucketing down windy some of the roads on the way back were flooded and it's also back to 11/12c looks like it's going to stay like that for the next week. As I wont be here I don't care to much, going to leave it to the more acclimatised folk.

1 day to go now then I will be able to complain about the hot weather.

Grundfos are indeed renowned for their; durability, reliability and innovation.

Our well pump is a Grundfos. Fitted it thirteen years ago and it's still running. Never had to use any of the spares I bought, or the (just in case) spare pump I got.

I'd be surprised if the spare ran now though as it's never left the original box.

H/M has returned.

Firstly allow me to apologise for bringing back the crap weather.

N/B rain cold and for us a totally washed out Loy Krathong.

Came back by EVA and for the first time they let me down, didn't have the landing cards what a performance getting through the passport/visa check, needless to say a very sharp Email will be winging it's way in their general direction.

I don't know if any other peeps have used the so called great new terminal 2 at Heathrow. Well if you haven't try and give it a huge miss it is in two word's 'bloody rubbish' From the moment you set foot inside to the do it yourself set up for pre-boarding it's as good a useless. 5 no less tries with H/H passport ended in a it doesn't exist eventually after I pointed out who I was it decided to play ball, then asked for my flight No: also said that didn't exist then it resets itself so you have to start all over again.

Once it does get going it prints your boarding cards that it spews all over the floor. You then have to go through Hampton Court maze to have the hole lot rechecked yet again by someone human. I wont go into the nearly £5 for a pint of IPA Bitter or the 6 or so miles you have to walk to get to your boarding gate where yet another maze has to be dealt with.

Today it'll be top up time. Western food, New Glass fronted fridge, just about peed orf with the normal almost useless large fridge freezer type that most peeps including H/M have.

I came to the final conclusion when I put some imported Lamb stock cubes in one of the door trays and two of same fell out before I even closed the door.

On arriving at H/M Mansions this morning I found that my new all singing all dancing internet Wi/Fi wouldn't work seems that if it's not used for some time you have to put in a pass code. No problem H/M thought as the chap that fitted it ask me to put in my own password in the first place, it then seems that he over rode that and put in a different one, a quick phone call followed by a trip to TOT to give them what for sorted same, and they sent along another peeps to reset it all thank Buddha now operative.

Something good for a change H/M Limo/Tank has be repaired, and an excellent job they made of it now looks like new. Full marks to Mrs H/M for going in most days to check and also informing the garage that woe betide them if it wasn't top notch as I would adorn pictures of her over their logo hoarding outside.

Other than a few minor!!! grumbles glad to be back in not so sunny K.P.P. Tomorrow is another day hopefully to have a new less problematic start to my stay.

Welcome back young man!

I'm sure you will have been missed up there in Kippers!

Thank you for the welcome back.

Yes H/M was missed have had several peeps upper class ones of cause, pop in to welcome me back one has delivered some Saudi Premier Dates 1kl of same have already tried some and pleased to report they are delish.

We are having a bit of a bash in Mikes (Oasis Restaurant) tonight for H/M welcome home party.

Update on shopping.

Now have the new fridge installed and it's seems to be working fine. Only have to put a couple of more electric sockets in the stock room to accommodate the old one that at present is in there running orf an extension lead, I have all the bit's so will do that tomorrow sometime.

That's of cause if I'm not suffering after tonight's escapade.

So smoke signals from over the border then!

Meanwhile in the hub of civilization new pillars are under construction for a further lane over the river in the Bangkok direction, no sign of any activity on the northbound side as yet and you can only guess at the timescale.

Despite huge volumes of noodles being consumed by "noodle tourists" heading for the mecca of noodles ( or should that be hub?) there is no shortage of the wonder food of Nakhon Sawan, November's flavour of the month is frogs legs and octopus, get tangled up in that one, bit like the duvet on waking eh!

I assume you are referring to H/M with the no smoke signals. K.P.P is a smoke less zone and we are not allowed to have fires or lorries belching out fumes unlike other places I could mention.

I'll have you know H/M has been busy sorting out the new fridge selecting new oven buying new duvet sets also topping up the freezers food wise.

I wont go down the route 'rout AM' of trying to lob out all the things that Mrs H/M says are vital for our general well being, cardboard boxes old window frames that she has put aside for a local builder to pick up not far short of a year ago, and lots of general toot that one collects.

Still working on the several thousand Thai woman's magazines that she refuses to throw out why she keeps them Buddha only knows, have managed to slip a few in the Limo/Tank and out them so far she hasn't noticed. If I end up in the local hospital you will know she has.

Also wanted to change the front doors from although nice wooden ones to smoked glass sliding type.

I was not here when the peeps came round to sort it out but it turns out that it's a No No and they wanted to keep the old ones and put new sliding ones on the inside quite defeating the object. Update as and when.

Some of the Devon Hunt to-wit Lord and Lady Crediton have arrived for their annual trip to Thailand they as normal are staying in that rat hole Pattaya, albeit at a 5* place.

I have tried to give it a miss this year but looks like I shall have to venture down and put in my usual Royal appearance.

Leaving it as late a possible, so far have pencilled in the 23/4th returning on the 27th via the airport after dropping them orf for their early afternoon flight with EVA.

Then it'll be trotting back to the promised land via N/S the only bummer about the hole trip.

Thank the lord I normally get past it rapidly only having to have a trip to my local Toyota garage the next day to have the Tanks suspensions inspected due to the rubbish roads that abound there.

Smoke signal "Etex" over now you can get back to your exciting Hub not forgetting the fish flavoured Noodles, oh and the building of the piles/pillars. When will the excitement ever end there one asks ones self.

I had heard about a fridge north of here making a hole in the ozone layer, you should get it sorted out before the UN comes knocking on your door!

Well welcome back anyway, surprised you tear yourself away from the Hammers, not doing to badly are they, I would put it down to the pie and eels being taken with noodles specially delivered from Nakhon Sawan.

I dont know about KPP but N/S is being more popular than ever, in the the last 3 years the population has gone up from 93000 to 114000 and thats the one that filled in the form, must be much more that, coincedently thats when I arrived in town ( now a City )I suppose it was a bit like the Messiah turning up and everyone wanting a bit of the action, but I am not into fortune telling, theres no money it and so they will just have to get used to the odd autograph ( no photos ) and I never refuse a beer especially if its in a box of 12 or more, naturally I put them away for a rainy day or to give to the needy, if the needy dont turn up, I will have it on their behalf. Sometimes my philanthropy surprises me, although the wife thinks I might be not the full ticket, amazing.

Fred, I've bee reading your posts for a couple of years. If K.P.P. is a "smokeless zone" you're either very lucky or you have been paying those in charge to look the other way and not read TV!

Are you turning into a "Doomsday Prepper" stocking up the freezers (more than one), hoarding building supplies and installing tow doors on your "bunker". They do sell groceries at the market, or did you bring many kilos of "smoked kippers" when you returned recently. Remember all of those products have a "use by date" stamped on them and go bad on the day after that date. That's why most DP's are fat since they have to cull and eat their stored products everyday to avoid spoilage.

As far as Dave's comment about the p[population of NS increasing, the Farang count was increasing but seems to actually have decline this past year. I do my extension on November 6 every year. In 2011 I was number 754 in the extension book, that rose to number 1431 last year but fell to 1100 this year, so it seems to be on the down swing/ I'm still the only one where I live and can only see it decreasing in the future as I become a septuagenarian next month!.

So you have been reading my post for years Wayne maybe it's time to stop they at times make me want to give up life.

I have heard that Dave the new Messiah allegedly who has been reading them even longer than you has lost the plot, see what's happened to him even his wife thinks he's not quite the ticket.

Re stocking up the freezers more than 1 yes have 2 as it enables me to find things, it's easier than trying to stuff large amount into just one.

Had to do that restock as Mrs H/M had cleaned most of the goodies out whilst I was away. Had left my bacon and English sausages + the Cheddar cheese that I get from Makro cut up in manageable pieces and frozen, thanks for that. But we were out of chicken wings, legs, breast, pork chops fillet, + several different cuts of steak, mustn't forget the duck butt that Mrs H/M likes.

Even my mayonnaise was depleted my daughter likes it on her toast don't ask as I haven't got to the bottom of that yet.

H/M doesn't do shopping every day other than veg I like to be in a position at around 3pm to say what will I have tonight then it's just a short trip to our supermarket room and surprising oneself. Did that yesterday and ended up with fish cakes made fresh with frozen salmon ++ and delish they were too.

Re the building supplies & toot.

You are married to a Thai does your wife ever throw anything out.

It's going to come in useful one day so they say. After a while one gets a trite fed up with having to move things about looking for something you know is there.

Point in question my new soldering iron used only once, has gone on the missing list have looked and it's a goner well it's there but I cant find it. More than likely turn up once I have got another new one.

So us Farang are depleting that means all over, as N/S visa office deals with lots of places other than N/S. Might be since the new Thai government have clamped down on the if you haven't got monies your out, no more lots of boarder runs.

Heaven forbid it's not the N/S Noodle's that are driving peeps away, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. Cheese and onion ones indeed. Could Buddha help us be salt and vinegar next.

Orf out now have to get yet more Mayo and my BKK post.

Oh nearly forgot the new doors are now a goner going to keep the old ones found out yesterday that the plonkers were going to cut out all the old wooden frame leaving me with no side windows. Also they said they couldn't get the dark grey tinted glass to match the windows, only blue or green where do they think I live Blackpool or even N/S EEEEEEEEK.

The Hammers H/M football team in Blighty for the Colonists are doing well at the moment 4th in the league but it is early in the year to get to complacent. One lives in hopes though.

H/M has just been watching yet another cooking program where a so called top cook (Am Woman)was cooking her pronunciation Bal-lin-cis I though this is something I hadn't come across before so I watched intensely, it turned out to be Blinis Russian pancakes that by the way are pronounced Bli-ni the world over. Except it seems in the good old U.S of A.

I wasn't going to mention it as thanks giving is just around the corner good will and all that, but couldn't resist.

H.M knows it's a trite early but Happy thanks giving. Hope you all enjoy your Ballincis.

What astrange hobby you have Fred, collecting old fridges, Reminds of that old Michael Miles quiz show where people had a key to a box ( fridges in your case) and he would try and buy the key off them, would they get a booby prize ( like a trip to KPP) or dream holiday in Nakhon Sawan, some spending money in Big C and noodles with a local celebrity ( that would be me) if there was enough money left.

Buses heading out fo town ( well the city you know what I mean) and avoiding the southbound bridge today so looks like they are getting on with the 3rd lane, it wont be a Christmas Present this year so expect more of the same for some time to come.

H/M doesn't collect old fridges both my glass fronted one's are less than a year old same with the chest freezers.

Must admit though Mrs H/M does have two a more than useless large fridge freezer and one that dispenses cold water both work, so as have stated before we will have to keep them for the conceivable future they will always come in handy Thai Logic.

Update on did I do the new sockets that I mentioned a little while back, still not done waiting on Mrs H/M to make up her mind on how to set out stock room.

So you can remember take your pick M Miles he was a Kiwi don't you know. I bet you also remember Double your money with Hughie green. Both shown in glorious Black and white I think on ITV.

The best one of all was Monty Pythons version of T.Y.Pick where the star prise was No not a trip to N/S but a blow on the head. Come to think of it though slightly/well a lot better than a trip to N/S.

H/M had mega problems in Toyota K.P.P yesterday but will leave that to a later date as orf to make a cupper now.
