Some drama here in the village. A house caught alight and burned to the ground 2 streets away.

3 fire services vehicles turned up but not until the house was a smoking ruin. Unless the response was very quick it probably wouldn't have made a difference as the house was wooden and up on concrete pillars so once the fire started it could draw air from underneath and it intensified quickly. Fortunately no-one was injured.

The day after we called in to donate some stuff and I was impressed by the way people had rallied round. There were 50 or so people from the village working, they had removed the ruins of the house, established a box for donations and set up a temporary shelter for the family. Various bedding and food had been provided.

This reminded me that we don't have any fire extinguishers at the house-anyone know where you can buy one in Kamphaeng Phet?

Global house top of Mikes road, go in store turn right and they are down the back by the tools. I think the ones you should get is a triple A ??? most are listed in English and Thai so up to you what one you pick.

I assume that you have insurance if not Viriar 'Spelling' does a good fire one about 3000bt for 3mil cover they are half way between the T lights and new post office opposite the Wednesday night market.

After sorting them carry on a bit further left side of bridge and you can enjoy some live prawns. Tip go on your own and it'll be cheaper.

Coming from Tak Global comes up on your right, perchance there's a gap in the central reservation right opposite the road you need to go down If you miss it you will have to go to the Traffic lights a couple of KM and do a U turn. Hope to see you for Coffees.

I don't know of the Tak Beef market some info on that, where and what do they sell yes I know it's Beef what sort of cuts size etc would be a help.

Thanks in advance.

Fred.

The place is called 'Tak Beef co-op' and yes they sell beef. You can get most popular cuts if you know the Thai names. I remember there being a butchers diagram with pictorial views of the various cuts, so if you know your beef you can just point at the diagram.

The beef is fresh or frozen. It's better to phone an order through if you want fresh as they don't have it every day and what isn't sold on the day gets frozen Last time I got; chuck rib eye and filet mignon. I rest the beef for between 10 and 20 days before cooking or freezing. One woman spoke some English but she usually wasn't the person who answered the phone.

I have two telephone numbers: 0822278976 and 055511934.

You'll find the place easily enough. Just drive to Tak and turn right on Hwy 12 (going to Sukhothai). I'm not sure about the distance but the place is on the right just after the point where the road widens. You'll see a large concrete Hereford at the entrance. If you get as far as the main gate to the infantry barracks (on the left), you've gone too far.

There used to be a restaurant on the road out to Lampang which sold their beef, but that closed down more than a year ago. It wasn't very good anyway, so no great loss. That was the last time we visited the co-op.

Jerry

I was up there yesterday going up and down the route 12 looking for the damn place, u turning every so often.

I even went to the TAT office and they rang up for me and explained it. I tried a couple more times and called the office as well.

The lady took my number and somebody called me in a couple of minutes and I tried to follow her instructions but I was still unable to find it then the call dropped. I called back and got somebody else who spoke better English but wouldn't stop rabbiting on so I pulled up at one of the gates to the infantry regiment and spoke to the duty MP who put me to somebody else. The 2 Thais spoke and then the army guy pulled me forward and pointed to the big orange building across the road and that was the place.

I didn't buy anything but took some photos and posted some info here. When I found it the two young ladies were very nice and helpful.

The big problem was no cows.

The Cows? arrive night time they are sold off the next day mostly by pre order.

As Jerry said in his post if you want a certain cut you will have to order in advance otherwise your left with what's available from their freezer chests.

If I remember right didn't I suggest that you get you wife to phone them to see what was available.

Old Chinese saying don't let a Farang who drinks Navy Rum do something that should be done by a Thai woman.

Nice snaps though.

My wife did try ringing them on Monday but they didn't answer.

I was up on Thursday taxing the truck at the DLT in KPP, then over to the school to finish off some stuff so I thought I would take a quick jolly to see where they actually hiding. They only had frozen stuff but in bigger lumps than I wanted but the next time I will get 'er indoors to earn her wifely salary and call ahead for me. That is if I can prise her death grip from our sons tablet, break her attention from playing stupid games and tell her what I want so that she can order and I can go up a couple of days later to pick it up.

Theres nowt wrong with gulpers of Pussers rum especially if it is somebody elses that you are drinking. If you were really a nice man you would bring a bottle back from the UK for me to support the fat old buggers campaign.

Got to be a rare phenomenon one 13th after the other I bet we don't get another set up like that for 832 years either. Just guessing I haven't looked it up.

Bill the elder I would willingly bring you back some Rum. That's if I have room in the case weight not a problem but I tend to pack the case full of tea bags, far more important than booze, last thing I would do is miss out on a few hundred T/B those bloody Thai ones are a No No. Weak as buggery not to mention the cost can still get red label ones here for around 1p a go. I can see you now complaining if I ever put the price up.

Re the tablet get your hands on it and delete the games that'll stop all in one swoop.

Hey my man, the next time will be when there's one in Feb again!

I must contact Dave and find out if that Yorkshire school js opened yet in NS so we can enrole you in the dummies class! Lol!

Hmmm! Maybe I've been a bit harsh on you, you coming from below Watford Gap, so sorry! But I will still enrole you! Lol!

For your information H/M can understand the Yorkshire accent. Albeit the peeps there don't speak any form of English that most know.

I have travelled north of the Watford gap on many occasions must admit though that I do get out as quick as possible.

Your offer of having to travel to N/S to go to school or anything come to that, other than the visa office is a large No NO.

Forget buying me a bottle Fred. The cheapest I have found so far is £30.95 for a 70cl bottle though that is ONLY about 1,500 baht. The good news is that my Thai family and friends won't drink so it will be mine, all mine he said with a maniacal cackle.

Tripe and Chitterlings. How revolting. The only offal that I eat and enjoy is liver.

I was born in Poole, Dorset which is west of the Pennines I think. I can still remember a little of Darset speak.

H/M happens to like all offal don't as stated before get to much of that over there Mrs and Mistress H/M not forgetting the Irish wolf hound eat all that's going at H/M mansions.

Talking of accents there is a New 'makes a change' program on BBC2 called Wanted in Paradise all about peeps that want to get out of this rat hole police state Blighty and live in deluxe places across the world.

Started Tuesday this Fridays one seems to be about a Scottish read Glaswegian couple who want to move to Thailand full time and to Phuket of all places. How they can call that paradise either I don't know. Cant for the love of me understand why K.P.P didn't feature could be because one has to go via N/S to get there, yes that'll be it.

An update will be winging its way asap. How they will get on Visa wise is another thing. Bill the younger might be able to help out in that direction as he should be clued up by now, well maybe.

Usual here cold raining high winds.

Oh just to keep me going this morning there's as usual another rerun on TV and this one is Magnum PI just started this episode is called The kiss of the Sabre.

Got to go now cant miss any of the exciting plot.

Phuket can in no way be described as paradise, he same is sounds good but thats as good as it gets, same as KPP thats why no one has heard of the place, who would want to go to live in place like that? Cheapskates thats who. KPP in Thailand is like the Old Kent Road on Monopoly whilst Nakhon Sawan is like Piccadilly ( Pattaya is like Poke Lane).

I expect the traveller is living on Pot Noodles, nothing like what you get in N/S where you get the real thing with chop sticks.

"Nakhon Sawan is like Piccadilly" What you forgot is the word CIRCUS (a show that is often performed in a tent and that typically includes trained animals, clowns, acrobats, etc.) Only been there once the first time that I drove from Heathrow to Chester. I somehow followed the signs to the "A" instead of the "M" and ended up going round and round forever and got nowhere, but I did see a show. Kinda reminds me of Muang Nakhon Sawan: animals, clowns and going in circles at least!

Fred, Regarding visas I just found out that both Wayne and Thai Immigration were correct. Apparently Australia is not a member of the G7 but Canada is. Australia is a member of the G20. hence only 14 days visa if you arrive by land and I think land includes river or sea.

Apart from that I wouldn't be much use to the Glaswegians although, since Scotland didn't vote for independence they can get 30 days on arrival plus extend one time for 30 days more regardless of their mode of arrival.

Bill, I didn't know ( or maybe I forgot) you were born in Poole, Dorset. So was I. We lived in a caravan outside Poole in a hamlet called Slepe before we moved to Australia.

You got in before me Wayne. Due to the time difference.

Sorry to pick you up.

But you forgot the slowly bit due to all the traffic that abounds there.

Hope your doing ok with all the burning that must be going on. Look on the bright side it'll be over in a month or two.

Evidently we had some black snow in K.P.P the other day so Mrs H/M said dash pore show if you ask me.

Just shows you what goes on when I'm away on a jolly.

Your correct only by plane do you get a 30 one.

You must choose your words more carefully, I can see it now the lower classes from N/S replying that us upper class lived in a caravan, Poole is perfectly fine though. These things must be kept to ourselves, regardless of how we have improved in the meantime.

Must admit I to have stayed in a caravan when I was young that was in Dorset but only for 2 weeks on a holiday first and last time as it rained every day.

Hope your doing ok regards the Visa, how are you dealing with that ??? your last one must have run out by now. Hope you've sorted the situation out, last thing you want is to have to pay 500bt a day overstay.

Hi Young Mr Bill

If you look up Slepe, Dorset on Google Earth you can see 1 large and 1 huge solar farms there. Apart from that I shouldnt think that much has changed over the years unlike Poole which has been bastardised by successive councils over the years.

As the Hunt Master is out of the country, I'll forgive him by not informing everybody that we've got a couple of solar farms in Phrankratai, KPP! I'm not sure who benefits because we still get power cuts, in my village only 15 KMs away, on a regular basis.

Got admit we do have a fair quota of clowns, they come from KPP looking for work, then go back again when they found out what work was all about, running around in tents trying to do tricks that amaze people, you can understand why they do karaoke now, its less energetic but more painful on the ears.

I do have ask the H/M but what a time to go back to Blighty, is it something in the air or the water in KPP? Much better to wait 2 or 3 months when the temps are getting better in Benefitland.

I had to come back because mum is none to well. Didn't have any choice regarding time.

She is getting a trite better but I fear it's going to be a long hall. Could be many months.

Nothing wrong with the water or anything come to that in K.P.P we do suffer with the lack of traffic and smog but other than that it's perfect. Any defect is made up with the many great restaurants & facilities that abound.

I do believe you do have one 'restaurant' that is, oh nearly slipped my mind it closed down some week ago. Soon to be reopened as a sports bar so I'm led to believe.

I can see you all now trying to have a meal with the TV's blasting out not forgetting the staff lolling about watching the soaps, sounds just the thing.

Come to think of it maybe Blighty isn't that bad after all.

H/M.

For all's information H/M only relates about K.P.P. town not the Outer Hebrides.

Tony I see in the new season your team is to be wearing Yokohama Rubber Company shirts, a trite kinky what.

John Terry appearing on the pitch in an off - the - shoulder rubber leotard. A harrowing thought.

Visa was sorted via a 30 day extension but to save buggerising around I think I will follow advice and apply for a retirement visa.

Unfortunately the caravan wasn't the worst of the accommodation-after we emigrated to Australia in 1951 our housing went downhill somewhat. We were out in the bush 200 miles from Brisbane in a construction with no electricity, low wood walls and a canvas roof.

It proved not to be an all weather roof so when we were hit with the tail end of a cyclone the hail ripped the canvas apart and I have memories of trying to hide under a table to get away from the hail.

The outdoor pan type sh1thouse didn't fare too well either. It got knocked over and, due to being located slightly uphill emptied its contents downhill towards the remnants of the 'house'. After one year in that idyllic paradise we moved to Western Australia and our accommodation finally started to look up.

Then you moved to Thailand and now have two kitchens and an outside dunny still improving.

Hi Bill

Did you ever meet my Aunt Lillian over there? She was supposed to have emigrated after the war and though Australia was a big place in those days (it is probably the same size now) there weren't that many people and immigrants only paid £10 each for the boat trip which included 3 square meals a day and somewhere to sleep. The only photo I have of her is in black and white and the caption on the back says "You know who this is, don't you?"

Actually I don't have a clue who it is but she looked a bit like my Mum and when I was tracing my ancestry she had vanished from the UK landscape so it must be her.
