Suradit69 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I know this is totally irrelevant and off-topic, but when I first read the thread title, just for the briefest moment, I thought pet doors were the latest fad to replace pet rocks:
Sheryl Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Whether or not your dog will ever learn to use the door, is another matter... I have a nice wooden doghouse for my dog which came with a swing door of the same type used in houses. He was never able to figure it out, so I have to leave it off. I tried everything...coaxing him out, demonstrating the movement of the door, holding freshly cooked liver (his favorite) rioght outside it etc etc. heart-rendering wimpers from within, but no exit. And he is a pretty smart dog, as dogs go.... A cat on the other hand will figure one out in seconds.

One of my two cats, maybe anxious to get back "home," pushed open a window during the night and got outside. I've put up missing cat posters, but I am not hopeful. If he tries to make it back to the old place, he has a major highway to cross and a huge klong, not to mention all the dogs and such between us.

Despite the obstacles, he just may make it so best to put up poosters around the old place too. One thing that has worked for me with my cat when she has been lost is to walk around calling for her and then listening intently for an answering meow, as usually she has gotten scared and hidden somewhere but will answer to my voice. You might want to try that both around your new place (he may have gotten scared once outside in unfamilkiar surroundings) and at the old (where he may have gotten scared once he realized he could not longer get in). Other thing that has worked for me in Thailand is reward offers..both in posters and promised to locals upon the pet's return.

We've got posters up already, and we've talked to everyone in the mooban and others outside. We are right next to a wat where they take care of animals, so the monks know, too. The mooban has a huge wall all around the place, but unfortunately, in two places where there is new construction, there are two small gaps in the wall. He is an orange Persian, and a month ago, because of a skin problem, he was shaved, leaving the tip of the tail and the head long, so he looks like a Dr. Seuss cat now. There would be no mistaking him from the photos on the poster.
