CharlieH Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Visa application for you (wife doesnt need one) is available at the border, dont forget your car passport, that cant be done at the border.
necronx99 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Also you cannot take your car if it is under finance.

Why don't you call the Novotel Vientiane for any transportation service pickups. I am pretty sure they will pick up customers at the Mittaphab (friendship bridge) border on the Lao Side.
stickyrice2000 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Don't expect luxury. Just pass the bridge to Laos side and take tuk tuk for an adventure ride. LOL
happyaussie Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Don't be bluffed by guys trying to sell you transport from Thai side to Laos. It's easy, go through Thai immigration, 20 bht for bus over bridge, Laos immigration (need US$30 for visa + $1 if no pic). Taxi from border to Vientiane 300bht (25 min drive). I did Tuk Tuk once and vowed never again. Plenty of places to stay. I usually stay near the river. There are plenty of small hotels which are cheap and okay. Novatel is a good alternative if your into chain hotels. But be warned, Vientiane is rather sleepy with not a lot to do compared to Thailand. Plenty of antique shops (how antique I'm not sure). If your into copy handbags, clothes etc. I noticed the quality is much higher than Thailand. A nice place, reminiscent of Thailand in days gone by.
fstarbkk Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I highly recommend the Beau Rivage. Small charming hotel with a deco exterior and modern, spacious rooms and big windows to the Mekong and Thailand. Lovely, quiet, yet convenient location by the river. Novotel is bland and pretty run down for the price. (NO, I don't get commission and I'm not sleeping with the owner) Taxis from the border should be 200-300 THB tops!
lovelaos Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 PM me if you want a minibus with driver who speaks good English and won't rip you off.

There is plenty to do if you are in the know I have NEVER paid anywhere near 300 baht for that trip. 100 BAHT per person is the REAL price.

To my best of knowledge your thai wife will get a 3 day visa at the border but there are some restrictions i cannot recall. If you cannot take your car i hope you can bring your wife..... Which one would be more difficult to bring over the border......
