Hi All. Can anyone recommend a place where you can drive in and they can fix problems with car radio/ cd players etc? My problem is small, and am sure it can easily be fixed by an expert in this field. Dont want to lash out for a new system at this time!!

Thanks a lot.

I just returned from Jet, Mahidon Rd (sp). They fixed my stereo, worked with it for 30 minutes and great. No charge. If you drive Mahidon Rd (sp) from Nong Hoi intersection towards airport. It's about 100 meters before the Airport Plaza- Hang Dong intersection.

.....????? No charge?...I assume you were a previous customer?

Don't know why you are so surprised. I often have small repairs jobs free of charge, mind you i always give at least 100 baht tip.

Most Thais use nid sound

How on earth could you come up with a statistic like that? Survey all customers of these types of businesses? A more valid and believable post would have been: "Most of the Thai people I know..."

pedantic but you are correct.

There's a small shop at Charoen Muang Road (the road of the train station) owned by a couple of young people.

The boy is really a good technician and values customer service.

When you pass the train station driving out of the city it's on your left hand side about 800 meters (or half a mile) passed the train station.

You can recognise the shop by all the LED lights blinking in front. Look good because the shop is small.

Amnuay is a place to avoid, especially when you're foreigner. All their stuff is extremely overpriced and their work isn't all that great.

I disagree with that. I've used Amnuay many times. Once I went there and got a quote, then sent the g/f for a quote a couple of days later. Guess what? They were the same price.

I think the owners are very nice people and they do good work there. One time our car overheated in the parking lot at Carrefour. One of the radiator hoses sprung a bad leak and the water drained right out. We called Amnuay since they were close. We had the baby with us who at the time was only a couple of months old and it was in the middle of hot season. They picked us up and gave us a ride home, took the car to their shop at closing time, and called us the next day to get the car. They replaced the hose. Total price for all of that: 200 Baht.

I've had other repairs there and always felt their prices were reasonable.

Having said that, one time when we needed a new compressor for the A/C did we felt their quote was too high. We shopped around and found the same repair for 50% less. So like with anything, it pays to shop around.

Well I had a very bad & expensive experience with them.

TV Rule (6) prohibits me to write all details unfortunately....

I agree with elektified, and they are very popular with Thais because of their reputation for high-quality work.

Obviously, not all customers are going to be satisfied. However, there's usually two sides to those complaints as well. For example, the owners told me recently of a farang who visited them a few months ago with a rust-bucket of a car around 20 years old that clearly hadn't had it's air-conditioning system serviced for many years, if at all. Everything was falling apart including the air-conditioning system. The farang told the owner what he thought was wrong. The technicians took the system apart and showed him the old broken parts. The farang blamed them for breaking the parts. The technicians spent hours putting everything back together. The farang wasn't charged a baht but left complaining.

Just means they abide by their own pricing policies and don't specifically overcharge farangs, doesn't make them a good value compared to what's generally available. Lots of businesses here are perfectly fair - they rip off all their customers 8-)

Does not mean that they are not a good value either. What do you know about Amnuay anyway? How may times have you tried them or been in to talk with their owners about something?

Sorry I wasn't more clear, wasn't saying anything at all about that specific vendor, just clarifying that the fact that a place doesn't engage in dual pricing doesn't automatically make them good value from a price POV.

The fact that two people here speak highly of the quality of their service is definitely a positive. . .
