I think my wife gets them in the Mandarin Oriental bakery (e.g. in Central Chidlom or in Emporium 5th floor when it reopens after renovation).

I'm no expert on bagels but the ones from there are pretty good and satisfy my bagel requirements

at Au Bon Pain is pretty cheap, plain bagel is around 30-40 bht / piece + topping as garlic cream cheese

but if u want bagel bacon ( +fried egg+ cheese) around 80 Bht serve with hot coffee in breakfast set

If you come up to Chiang Mai, not only does Pai Sabai have bagels and cream cheese, but lox too.

Yum Yum :o ( and I mean that in a food way ) I was just think about asking where I can find lox ( smoked salmon ) for my bagle . I do plan a trip to Chiang Mai next month , where is Pai sabai ?

But if you'd rather have one that is freshly baked - as opposed to what Pie Sabai sell at Rim Ping supermarket. Go to the Salsa Kitchen near where the Rasta Bar used to be.

I found Bagels just to take home, are expensive in Thailand. 30 Baht compared to Bagels in America $.25 or 10 Baht. Seems like anything a Farrang buys is expensive. Even the Thai grown coffee.

Au Bon Pain make Great bagels. Always get some when I visit Bkk. Great help on the drive back :o

In C-M we have a Bagel Cafe who make different style, just as good, for 12 Baht each. Always keep a dozen or so in out fridge/deep freeze.

I've seen them at Villa Market. They are sold in a pack of three plain bagels for 50 Baht. Another place that I spot selling various kinds of bagels is the Supermarket of Central Chidlom (Ground Floor). They are freshly baked and about 30 Baht a piece.

Au Bon Pain!!! I'm from New York, and bagels there have been my salvation. Nicely toasted, decent variety, and with extra creme cheese, they help you forget your homesick memories of food for a little while.

I didn't like the bagels at New York Deli; too "bready".

All products manufactured from wheat(like bagels) are expensive in Thailand since all the wheat is imported and duties are very high on this (nearly 60% :o ) so gross margins on breads are very low and prices are high comparing with other food.

But there seems to be hope that this duties will be reduced in the near future... :D

Semi related question:

any source for MATZOHS in Thailand?

Why would I want matzoh, you ask?

Matzoh brie. It is a great comfort food.

Traditionally made by soaking wet matzohs in beaten eggs and frying in butter, and then salting, but I make it by by soaking the wet matzohs in beaten eggs, adding hot chile peppers, frying in OLIVE OIL, and garnishing with slice avocado. My own multi culti contribution to world culinary confusion.

I miss bagels so much, I love living in Nakhon Si Thammarat, but I miss some things and here, I haven't seen any, anywhere. there isn't a "Au bon pain" here, nor a deli, and Carrefour/Tesco/Tops don't make them. I have bought some in Samui and I bought some at a great place in Phuket some time ago.

For now, I can only dream of toasted bagels and cream cheese.

I've found them at the Makro in Chiang Mai. You have one down there?

I ordered some premade bagels and croissants from the baker boys, they have something called Bread republic. They charged me 15thb per bagel, that is not too pricey in my opinion.

Only problem is that you need a small oven. I have microwave with a grill but have not tried to use it to make any bagels yet.

You can get a small cheap oven from any lotus/carrefour for around 1500thb. It even fits a loaf of rye bread. I know you can get a real electric oven with two plates from Seri Center for 8-12.000thb, bottom floor where they sell sporting goods.

Their adress is. Bread republic & baker boys

Bagels uukkk!!! Donuts without soul...................

Perish the thought!

To make a strained musical analogy,

bagels are to Beethoven as donuts are to William Hung.

You could always make your own. Ihave in the past. It just involves making basic bread dough and then waiting for it to rise. Obviously. Then forming them into hoops and dropping them into boiling water for about 15 seconds prior to baking them. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! :o

If you are looking for fresh bagels/croissants in the morning then we might be able to help you out.

It requires that you have a small electrical owen and a big enough freezer to keep the pre baked bagels frozen.

There is a bagel shop in Roi-Et - you can find them on Facebook.

I find them quite easy to make myself, if you can be bothered.

In BKK, I've lately come across a place on Grab called "Monty's By Roast" -- Roast being the name of a local restaurant -- that has VERY good bagels by my taste.

They offer about a half dozen different varieties, including Sesame, Original, Cheddar Cheese and even Chocolate. The individual bagels run 60b apiece. But they also sell bags of 5 for 250b, and I'll typically buy one bag per week of those.

I've had the supposed bagels from the local bakeries at Tops and Villa, and don't care for those at all.

I've also ordered various versions from Au Bon Pain shops in the past, and liked those quite a bit... though their bagels via Grab run 70 - 80b apiece, with 80b being their price for a very tasty Double Cheddar Jalapeno bagel, along with 85b for a plain bagel with their cream cheese add-on.
