In What Ways Are Rain/Wind Deflector?

Featured Replies

edit* I meant to say in what ways are the defelctors useful or pointless?

I think they are ugly but what are your opinion in rain/wind deflector?

Are they worth putting on?

Not sure what the exactly do but I would assume you can crack the window open while driving in the rain?

Serve as a film shade as they are usually darkened? Deflect wind?

Are there any disadvantage? Are they useful? Whats the whole deal on these accessory?

if you're talking about the ones that mount onto the window frame, yes, they allow you to 'crack' the windows slightly while raining w/out letting water in. Also, if you're the type that likes to drive with windows open, they will reduce the wind buffeting rear seat passengers will experience, and might save your right arm from a little sunburn wink.png

If you're talking about the ones that mount on top of the hood (bonnet), if designed correctly, they can help deflect water spray up over the roof, rather than getting onto the widshield when driving at high speed on wet roads.

I think they’re just crap the dealers give out to make people think they are getting a deal. Useless IMO. I guess if you smoke, or want to keep the windows cracked in the rain for some reason there may be a benefit.

The deflector on the hood is supposed to help keep from getting rocked or bugged. These do work to a certain degree, but IMO not enough to make it worth hanging a crappy looking piece of plastic on the front of a nice car.

One on the Hood is called a deflector, the ones on the door over the windows are called visors!

My grandfather used to have a snowplow like device on the hood/bonnet of his car to deflect bugs away from the wind screen/shield.ohmy.png

Yes, I was referring to the visor which goes on the side of the windows.

Good point about smokers needing one..havent thought of that one.

It will help on the rainy days when AC is on and windows fog up...

I mainly like them as they cut a bit of extra light / heat coming in. Also I like the dark strip along the top of my windscreen as it cuts some glare at dusk.

No, the one on the hood is called a bug guard and the ones on the door over the windows are called weather guards.

The Window Visors are great for smokers as they help let the smoke out and of course you can ash the cigarette out of the window when it is down slightly without it blowing back into the car. THE BIG PROBLEM with these in Thailand is that they are FULLY Coloured, NOT CLEAR down the Windscreen Pillar which creater a Very Large Blind Spot virtually doubling the size of the pillar. This Blind Spot is very dangerous as it conceals the presence of Motor Bikes especially so be sure to move your head and look around the blind spot- Pillar at all times. This is a much bigger problem on my Pajero than it was on my old Sportsrider and i hate to think how many times i have almost clobbered one of them. If anyone knows where you can get CLEAR Visors i sure would be interested.

I think they would look nice on my ride.

I'm looking to buy a body kit soon if they start asking silly prices i'll show them this for a quote.

I've never had a car with visors but the only plus no-one has mentioned yet is that windows can be left slightly opened which reduces heat build-up in a parked vehicle. Or maybe that's just plain stupid, but I've seen Thais do it.

I was just going to post this exactly. We do it all the time, and it makes a huge difference when the car is parked out in the sun.

Yes,.......... most are put on with double sided tape so easy to pull off......

I have them, and for 2 reasons, windows sometimes fog up and I smoke = no rain comes in no matter how hard it rains...

Depends on car/truck, my car has climate control, the pickup has normal air con, not fond of air con and find to have the window open a bit while driving is better.....

As for the guard/defector on the bonnet, all I can say after a long trip the front of the pickup [WHITE] is black with bugs, but very few on the windscreen, so it works well as a bug guard/defector
