Has anyone had any experience lately in renewing the expired photo on their british driving license.

I haven't been back to the UK in 7 years and the old address was my parents who have now moved.

I could in theory use a relatives address if required

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Did it all online, the DVLA can access your UK passport photo and you can choose to use that. The whole process is actually much easier than you would expect.

I applied online on Thursday afternoon and the license arrive at my house monday morning.

Thanks for the replies, is it just as simple a process to put a new address in there if I use a relatives.

I take it the license would need to be sent to the new UK address first then forwarded to me?

Check the website mate, I think everything you need to know will be on there or in their FAQ list.

Did mine last month, gave my passport details and my daughters address as you need a uk address to qualify, they got my photo from my passport details (has to be less than five years old) paid by credit card (£20) and a new licence arrived a week later at daughters address.

Thats good to know.

Later on in the online application it looks like they want a national insurance number, is this required?

Depends on your circumstances really, I renewed my UK license using my Uk postal address, my daughters, but now having a Thai driving license which I just renew, you can drive in UK on a Thai license. So !!! what's it all about Alfie.biggrin.png

I will organise a Thai driving license shortly, but I like having my british license for when I go to other countries like Australia for example.

I believe it's possible to drive in Oz on a Thai license for 3 months, here is a quote from another thread.

it's my understanding that if you have a full Thai driving licence then you can apply for an International Driving Permit here in Thailand that would be completely legal in Australia.
