'End of term' for Pro Racing Series at Bira

PATTAYA: -- There was a real ‘end of term’ atmosphere as the 2011 Pro Racing Series wrapped up at Pattaya’s Bira Circuit. The final round had fallen victim to the Thai floods and then dropped even further back to avoid overlapping with both the Bangsaen Speed Festival and the Open Golf, the latter of which takes on a course adjacent to Bira. However the golf green tranquility at Bira was shattered by the arrival of the motor racing contingent, and once the engines snarled into life in the paddock on Friday morning, it was straight back to business, especially so as there were titles to be decided and trophies to be fought over.

The Pro Racing Series, which is organized by GPI Motorsport, aims to offer budding racing drivers a level playing field to advance their careers, giving them a first step on the ladder, and this theme continues all the way to the top where seasoned professionals slug it out. The three main classes are ‘Pro Car’, ‘Pro Truck’ and the headlining ‘Thailand Touring Car’. There are also races for classic and 4x4 cars on the multi-programme. [more...]
