Thai Boxer Yodsanan 3K Battery Set to Star at Major Mixed Martial Art's Show in Singapore

by James Goyder

BANGKOK: -- Former WBA Super Featherweight world champion Yodsanan 3K Battery will be returning to mixed martial arts action this month. He is set to take on Chinese fighter Jiang Long Yun at ONE Fighting Championship ‘War of the Lions’ at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 31st.

Yodsanan is one of the best boxers Thailand has ever produced and has a professional record of 57 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw. He once boxed at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York but is now fully focused on his MMA career.

The 37 year old made his professional MMA debut at ONE FC 1 in Singapore last September when he stopped South African Daniel Mashamaite with strikes in the second round. It was an impressive performance which was enough to convince matchmakers to give him a serious step up in competition.

His opponent, Yun, has much more MMA experience with a professional record of 3-1-1 and he has beaten some of the best fighters in China. Although Yodsanan is originally from Sisaket he is now based full time in Singapore where he works as a boxing instructor at Evolve MMA.

An audience of around 7,000 people is expected at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and the event will be broadcast to countries all over Asia, including Thailand, by ESPN Star Sports. Having already fought in this venue before Yodsanan is confident he will do even better second time around, “The first time I was nervous and even though I won I don’t think I performed as well as I could have done. This time I think I will do much better, I am training with world champions in MMA every single day at Evolve MMA and there is nothing that can happen to me in the cage which I won’t be prepared for.”

Yodsanan is not the only Thai trainer at Evolve MMA and amongst his colleagues he can count Muay Thai legends Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn, Lamnammoon Sor Sumalee, Attachai Fairtex, Anuwat Kaesamrit and Orono Wor Petchpun.

Although he has left it late in life to switch careers Yodsanan believes that time is still on his side and he can make a big impact in MMA,

“I have never smoked or drank alcohol in my life and I go running every day, I am in good shape and I am confident I can continue to fight for many more years. I know I hit harder than any of my opponents will and I also work hard with the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champions at Evolve MMA so I am strong in all areas.”

Thailand is home to the best Muay Thai fighter in the world and has also produced more than its fair share of boxers. MMA is the newest combat sport to gain mainstream popularity and Yodsanan could be the first Thai to reach the top.

ONE FC 1 will be broadcast in Thailand for the first time at 10pm on Thursday March 15th on Star Sports and you can watch Yodsanan’s knock out win over Daniel Mashamaite.
