Hey, why don't you talk to the Disney Corp first.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but I'm sure they are thinking "disney like" park.

I'm sure any attempt will make Butlins look as good as Disney world floridacowboy.gif

Come on guys, how would they be able cream off the money.

as if Disney would ever have a park in Thailand!!! then again, it would be funny if they did!! but i thought that foreigners cant own land in Thailand?

maybe they will end up building a non-disney theme park instead.

Off topic a bit but there was an amusing story about the employees at Disney Corp HQ in their internal emails referring to their place of work as 'Mousewitz'. When Disney's management found out they issued a warning that anyone using the term in future would be fired instantly. Sortly afterwards emails started replacing it with 'Duckau'.

Hilarious! laugh.png

I am amazed, that most of the people working their had a blxxdy clue as to what it was referring to.

Them's educaytud people who work thar at Mickey's place! cowboy.gif

Building state of the art casinos and convention facilities combined with championship golf courses but with rates lower than Macau would drive value conscious upscale travelers, groups, and businesses to LOS. When will locals learn that the number of tourists is not the goal, it is the revenue spent per tourist that counts. It is like hotels boasting 100% occupancies. What they are really saying is that they are selling their rooms too cheaply.

Then again, LOS could quit pretending not to be a sex tourism destination and capitalize on it. TAT recently went on record saying they are doing everything they can to dispell the notion that LOS is a hub for sex tourism, meanwhile, they run ads featuring single males, no women and no families, as in the current one that opens with elephants' trunks fully extended toward, and in close proximity to, the rears of other elephants while voiceover narration from a sibilant sweet male voice emulates closet katoey inflections, pandering to the gay trade not so subliminally. Why not just own up to it like "respectable" hotels and other providers. Casinos and prostitution. It certainly hasn't hurt Las Vegas.

What on earth would the Disney Corp know about Disney land? Thailand is fantasia with snow white and the 7 dwarfs. Thailand/Disneyland where dreams come true.

I disagree... I have kids and would definitely take the kids if there was a Disney theme park in Thailand

I don't think they are refering to building an actual Disneyland Theme Park, but rather a Thai owned and operated ripoff.

First thing that leaps into my mind is SAFETY. Disney puts great stock in the safety aspect of their theme parks. Thai's just don't give a crap.

If TAT and the travel agents want to make a real impact on tourism, then put an end to the jetski scams, the tuk-tuk mafia and the corrupt police.

That would just make too much sense. I'm sure they already figured this out a LONG time ago. lol Ahh emm I have recently realized how conservative Thailand really is. I met some great friends and realize how nasty and dirty the tourist areas really are. I think the Thais are truly embarrassed about them and find them more repulsive then they are. If they were to admittedly promote them, it'd be a HUGE problem for everyone

And what nationality would such a park be aimed at, Russians?, English, German?, etc. etc. virtually all of the shows, animations and the like would probably be in Thai, can you imagine an English, Russian or German family sitting through a show that was in Thai and they couldn't understand a word? Some Dutch friends once took me to Eftaling, which is a big theme park in Holland, everything was in Dutch as one would expect, and I was taken to several 'shows' and I was at a loss to understand what was being said. Its not possible unless you provide everyone with headphones to cope with a multiple of laguages, the whole idea is a none starter.

Cool they could have little Tuk Tuks on rails that families could ride through the park. Think of the fun. Donald duck jumps out of the bushes beats the dads over the head with a club and steals your wallet, moms get molested by the seven dwarfs, and kids get pimped out by pepe le pew. What an adventure.

Great, a knockoff Disneyland. Thailand is already Disneyland on jet fuel. So whatever...

Cheap airfare, that is what will do it. Subsidize that and you're done. Cancel Swampy fees, subsidize Thai Air... etc.

If the objective is to get tourists to return to Thailand maybe they could just start by being nice to them, and stop all the rip-off's that make a lot stay away.

What about all the tourists that go to

Disneyland Tokyo that can't speak Japanese

Disneyland France that can't speak French

Disneyland Hong Kong that can't speak Chinese

Disneyland USA (X2) that can't speak English

Not to mention other theme parks around the world.

Why not just clean up the country, so it can match every tourists dream of a clean country?

Every <Snip!> place I go in this country, beaches and nature are drowning in waste. Just went back from Khanom, where beach and private land along the beach is drowning in waste. Bangkok, Phuket and most other places have the same waste problem, which makes me pick another destination next time.

Hey, what about just financing improvements at the existing Dream World? Oops, that would involve much less money...

And, yeah, I thought Disney Corp usually made their own location decisions.

How about attracting more tourists by not scamming the ones who already come here?

...and as well as financing improvements to the exisiting Dreamworld...how about spending some money on maintenance...!!! last time I was there with the kids...3 "rides" were not operating...almost everywhere you looked the place looked "tired" in need of a coat of paint at least in some areas...in the covered in area where small attractions exist being boat rides etc for the little kids.....4 of the rides were unmanned and not operating. Either it was maintenance issues or a lack of staff...yet I had to pay the full price at the gate for half the "fun of the fair"

What a sad move by the tourism organizations.

Why make Thailand like every other tourist trap? A Disneyland theme park is simply an import of American culture. It will only appeal to Thais and close-by surrounding countries. Maybe it will only help keep Thai travelers at home (strategy: fight fire with fire).

Furthermore, when the real Disney makes landfall, there's going to be H_LL to pay by all the rip-offs/knock-offs of Disney's images and characters throughout the Kingdom. I live 5 minutes from a hugs swimming pool surrounded by Disney characters to attract the kiddies. In the middle of Isaan, I suspect the rights to use Disney's images have not been sought out.

Isn't the Thai food, beaches, culture, enough to draw a significant crowd interested in a country for it's own unique characteristics?

I view this as an unneeded further Westernization of Thailand only to satisfy the tourist industry's greed for the whole tourist pie in SE Asia.

[edited to remove TAT references]

I was thinking the same. Years ago I went to one of the Thai floating markets. There was one Thai guy with a tourist stall selling souvenir plates of the market with photographs embedded in the glaze of the boats with farang tourists in them. He didn't realise that the tourists came to see the picturesque scene of the boats with the Thais in their blue costumes selling their wares. Needless to say, no one was buying his plates.

How about a "Thaksinland" theme park?

You mean a magical place where you are promised you can be rich?

Or a casino?

Its an interesting discussion... yes not all employees of The Disneyland places you quote are fluent in English but certainly a higher degree than what you have in Thailand especially amongst the socio-economic class in Thailand that would probably be getting jobs as ride attendants etc. In fact Thailand's lack of english language issue has been identified as a major issue in Asia 2015 trade goal agreement and even Thai politicians in a moment of remarkable clarity have acknowledged this.

The best example I can give of this is the large AOT sign as you exit Chiang Mai airport.. it shows a group of presumably AoT employees standing together and heading is " walking together to blah blah blah".

While walking together could possibly fit although slightly non applicable to a group of employees clearly standing around as they are, i have it on very good authority that the sign was supposed to read " Working together".. and this is from the folks who manage the airports.. the sign maker who shall remain nameless is a family associate of a high level administrator at CM airport and had only done small signs in Thai before this contract landed in their lap.

So a Disneyland in Thailand could be a good laugh with a range of new names for well known characters.. come see hilarity Elmer Fuse , sigh as Bombi the dear makes it home, the Taswaniain antichrist is good for a giggle, Cinbredella and the 7 stunted perform for you, golfy makes a booboo again, daftee duck.. can he ever get a head... minny and miky mice the stars of our park and roadblazer ctaches the tricky ciyoteee again. Were walking hard to make you mirfful.

If Mathayom 1 level English is good enough for the Prime Minister then it should be good enough for Mickey Mouse

Good thing they specified 'Disney Land', rather than 'Disneyland'...big difference, kind of like Micky Mouse vs Mickey Mouse. Perhaps they can just make a copy of the fake Disneyland in China, Wonderland, which was abandoned 1/2 way through construction, 15 years ago. As much as I do love Disneyland, I have to say they would be much better off putting that money into a tourist attraction they already have, which is known the world over, and has fallen into near terminal disrepair...Phuket! Clean that sh#thole up, kick out the Mafia, and turn it into the world class tourist destination that Thailand is sorely missing. They can even build a theme park there, if they please. Best of all, it will help relieve the pressure at BKK by increasing flights direct to Phuket.
