Indeed appropriate.......yet another fix required where the Democrats failed......another promise to be fulfilled

Along with the Tablets

And the minimum wage rise

all coming along nicely..........

Well done Yingluck........

And you wonder why you're associated with those so enamored they giving her a free pass.

The flooded street with Yingluck's election campaign promise was months and months after the Democrats had departed and FROC had firmly been in control (in a manner of speaking).

Tablets in a chaotic state and even then, represents less than 10% of their election promise.

Minimum wage delayed for 70 provinces, divisional in its selective implementation.

etc. etc.

Removed my comment as has been said before but probably lost in the din of back slapping going on about how bad this scheme/government/planning has been. I honestly believe that the democrats like the majority on here really do think the promise of a tablet for the kids got the PTP into power.

Keep up that kind of thinking and they are going to be in the wilderness for a very long time.

Personally I think most Democrats and lots of members here believe the 'tablet for the kids' is one of the election promises which got Pheu Thai lots of votes. The other promises would include '300B/day', 'higher rice price for farmers (but not consumers of course)", 'no more flooding / no more draught', 'this is not about k. Thaksin' and a few more like that.

Ignoring all this seems to go easy on some of the other posters who have faith, are touched by some spirit, or simply say things because it's not their country nor their problem anyway.

IMHO.

Did PTP really say no more flooding prior to the voting in their election campaign?

Sorry for late reply, I've been a wee bit busy. Having to work is a bit of a bother as I'm sure you can imagine.

In the mean time you must have seen at least one answer to your question. If necessary I still have a non-flooded picture with the campaign promise. Just let me know if you require it. It's always nice to be able to help other posters in remembering what was said and imaged hardly a year ago smile.png

Indeed Rubl. I've lost count of the number of times posters have to be reminded exactly who did not release the water from the Dams in the first 6 months of 2011.......such is the curse of being a Tvisa member

When the government completes the first term we can judge if the delivery of the topics has materialised, yes maybe a little ambitious in the promises but better to deliver a little late than not at all.....

Before commencing a subsequent term of government.......

I also only vaguely remember the minister from PM Yingluck's cabinet who admitted to have ordered dams closed for too long. And of course all water retained and only marginally released in the first few months had nothing to do with standard policy to prepare for the dry season. How much water is still retained today, assuming there was some left after all drainage end of last year? Did we have similar rainfall this year as last year? How many provinces suffer from draught at the moment?

Not to be able to remember all those discussions during the high-days of flooding seems a curse some TV members suffer under.

Anyway as usual the topic is on all those tablet PCs which will soon arrive to gladden all those P1 kids lucky enough to be in a school which qualifies. most may feel a need to buy books for the time being assuming they got/get printed?

And those children who don't receive their tablet will need to buy books without the subsidy which was spent acquiring the tablets which they did not receive. While wearing their new uniforms bought without the subsidy.............................

So,you recommend that they have to release water in June because they gonna have an oversupply in October?I guess there was plenty of time between 3 August and when the floods happened to release the water.

That is assuming there are tablets to be distributed. With 50,000 maybe next month and optimistically 100,000 every following month it'll be Januany before all P1 kids have one. That's close to end of the schoolyear! In the mean time books will be needed and maybe schools can have the infrastructure and even electricity.

The fun of computer assisted learning. I can see it before me. The teacher saying "come kids, gather around. I have a tablet, let me show you what you could do with it."

Still waiting for one to be fulfilled.

There were months in the spring of the year where the lowest volume of water in recorded history was released....maybe just coincidence......why I don't know.......but in my opinion that was not very smart to have the dams full to the brim when the big rains hit....you are of course entitled to think the volume of water required to aviod flooding large areas could have been released without damage in order to contain the later excessive rainfall...

There have been years of neglect.........it will take time........but it would appear the effort and inclination is there to instigate positive change.......that at least is an inprovement on recent past performance.......the government has taken up the challenge........let us see how they have performed at the end of their term.....and watch as they are voted in for another term to continue the good work

As opposed to the Democrats who did not have to make any promises to enable them to govern

But left a legacy of

Substandard education

Poor infrastructure

ineffective flood defence

to name but a few

To be fair I think they managed to modernise the military

For the past two decades Democrats have been in power for about a third of the time, the longest stretch being spent on fixing the country after 1997 crisis. The last stint also happened during the world recession that went largely unnoticed in Thailand.

Blame them for infrastructure, flood defenses and poor education, right.

Dams filled up from half to the brim AFTER the elections, and it wasn't Democrats who were in charge of water management, it was Banharn's party.

Dems were also responsible for introducing two rounds of education reforms that were totally undermined by subsequent TRT/PTP administrations.

This goverment that has yet to complete a first year is being slammed for not making rapid progress........the democrats passed the country over........obviously they failed in their tenure to put the fixes in....... either you agree that the posters on this forum are not giving the current government a reasonable period of time to implement fixes.......or the democrats in their latest tenure simply failed to deliver.......

Oh and if there had only been 15% of capacity in the dams at election time would there have been the same element of flood damage?.........given that in previous years the release levels had been substantially higher in the first 6 months of the year......

True, they have made many promises than Samak's and Somchai's administration did, but if simply stating fantastic claims, with little or no follow-up, is an improvement, it's a very small one.

Cool... your second reply to the same post.

Double the fun, I suppose.

The Democrats made several pledges during the election, just not as wildly outrageous and unachievable ones as what PTP said on their placards and speeches.

Democrats made advances in education during their term with free education to M-8, and instituting free school uniforms and free textbooks. Those have incidentally been scrubbed by the PTP in favor of cheap plastic tablets from China which is deemed by Yingluck to be a more appropriate expenditure.

The government is the one who promised the populace to have rapid progress with their harebrained schemes.

Sorry if holding them up to those ridiculous pledges is uncomfortable for the PTP government defenders.

Yes I guess the democrats and Tvisa posters should continually take them to task for over enthusiasm......I prefer to at least give them the opportunity to succeed

Tablet, or free school uniform.......you cannot see the additional educational benefit in providing the former?

over enthusiasm = lying

School uniforms were a proven entity with tangible benefits for parents and students alike....

Disjointed and ever-changing policy for giving away disposable Chinese plastic without the requisite infrastructure nor teaching training in place is neither of those things.

There is not really any point in trying to have an intelligent discussion with a person who thinks a piece of cloth carries the same educational benefit as a tablet computer

Sorry I misread your misleading contention.

I was looking at the comparison purely from the money expended, which doesn't necessarily reflect its "educational benefit".

The uniforms clearly benefited students and parents as an expenditure by the government. None of those who benefited would have viewed them as a "piece of cloth."

For the other comparison it would have been more appropriate of you to compare the free textbook program that was dropped in favor of the tablets.

Before any comparison can be made, the realization that these tablets are bargain basement junk by no-name company and not the Samsung tablet that Yingluck deceptively displayed is the first step.

Yes give them a chance they asked for 6 months.

Oops I forgot that was nine months ago.

You sound like a habitual convicted criminal at his hearing for jail time. Please your honor just give me a chance.

As for uniforms there are studies out that say wearing uniforms in schools tends to lead to more of a feeling of being one, result less violence.

So the tablets are not the latest singing dancing technology.........well, to me, as long as they carry the required educational functions, fine. After all surely you read the many posts on Tvisa that stated the tablets provided would just be sold for lao kow funds by the parents, so low end is probably a good move if this is true.....also you would read the posts stating the frequency and cost of breakages would prohibit a successful distribution, so low cost replacement is also a good thing.......

Would care to google how many computer components are made outside China?....It would appear Thailand is not the only country that utulises Chinese computer products

Good grief even robs the children of self defence training!, I am not suggesting uniforms are good or bad.......I am suggesting tablet computers carry more educational value, Buchholz is correct a more fair comparrison would be free books...........but the old ways we are told are not working...........so give the tablets a chance I say

Yes, China makes a wide variety of products with a huge level of differences in quality... eg, Apple iPads and Shenzhen Scopepads.
