If it gets up and running, im going to don a mustache and sneak in..then ill have something to juicy to gossip to all ladies about when we meet for lunches. laugh.png

My only worry is that you would be bored to tears.. ;)

Of course you'd need to check local law to find out if there's any PC discrimination crap preventing you from making it male only.

Well, so far nobody has hauled off Eek and Nancy for having ladies-only lunches and events, so I think we're in the clear. ;)

Or we'd make it a Buddhist center in name, in Buddhist temples and centers it's quite common to have one or more areas that are off limits to women, and clearly signposted as such, too.

If the plan is to create this as a business, than I wouldn`t be interested. I can already hear some of you saying; good.

Doesn't have to be a business in the sense that 'making money' isn't the goal here. There will be bills that need to be paid, of course; that big cocoa-marshmallow Jacuzzi doesn't fill itself for free.

Was just teasing you winnie. Of course nothing wrong with guys wanting to hang out together for some "man time". The last thread was just obviously obnoxious, thats all.

I not actually a ladies lunches kinda girl, not that their is anything wrong with that. I am just more of a guys kinda girl, so most of my mates are men. I enjoy the occasional female get together though. Shame you guys arent bikers, thats usually a pretty good male bonding get together..unless of course you get female riders like me infiltrating..but then again, that doesnt happen, because im a strong believer in guys having guy time, and if i ever do go along, its because im very much invited!!

In all seriousness, perhaps there would be merit in sort of a poor man's rotary kind of club. You can say many things about Farangs in Chiang Mai, but not that their backgrounds aren't diverse.. With a lot of skills in sometimes unexpected areas. And giving something back to the community can be very uplifting.

This may be blasphemy given what was said earlier, but along that line I'm less convinced that 'having a penis' is sensible as an entrance criterion. (And besides, any club should be honored and privileged to have Eek and Nancy join..)

Well, I'm off to Wororat to get measured for my smoking jacket.

Do you think Imperial Purple is a bit much?

Mr. Singh had to order another bolt of fabric to accommodate my...ermm...measurements.

Then it's off to Dunhill to get that new pipe rack I've had my eye on for awhile.

Say old chaps, shouldn't we have a name with a little more resonance than "My-So Society" ?

How does "The Royal Miscreants Society" sound? smile.png

I said 'poor man's, no need to go to Woolywit Market (joining in on the creative spelling contest that's apparently going on with both Wussyrat Market and Mummynimby Road) for anything.

I like a blue farmer's shirt dress code though. ;)

You defiantly qualify. You obviously have excellent taste.

Check to see if they have any thing in a deep sky blue for me.

Sawasdee Khrup, Khun WTK,

I must admit I find the term "gentleman's club" both an anachronism, and an oxymoron, reeking of chauvinism and colonialism But I was happy to realize (hypothesize ?), as I read on, that your intent here was irony.

............

Actually, for Brits, outside the City (of London) and aristocratoc circles the term has long since been hijacked by overpriced pole-dancing venues for the suited and booted in commercial centres of larger English towns.

You have to wear a suit to watch women pole-dance in England? No wonder so many Brits move to Thailand.

To go to a gentleman's club, yes generally speaking. I didn't say that they were the only places that people could go to watch pole dancing. With prices being generally what they are throughout the social strata, you are right in one sense - no wonder so many Brits move to Thailand.

Ah, Dinosaur Night!

Lovely people, wonderful history, great war stories from Malaya, etc.

A "Malaya" is a loose woman, in Swahili. Somehow still fits into the sentence...

A. I think it important to recall that it was exactly 54 weeks ago that Winnie announced the arrival of Hooters in the new Rimping addition. Turns out that he was in error about this (I know, as I check weekly). Still, one should mull over any of his provoking thoughts to be certain that he's serious.

B. Obviously, in this one he was serious. Didn't Lionel Tiger, Phd anthropologist with a chair at Rudgers, in his Men in Groups, demonstrate universal and historic behavior patterns suggesting that the tendency might be hard wired?

C. Moreover, who objects to a women only club or organization? In this world?

D. For the truth is, we have not arrived at equality or equity between the genders, and until we do, we might well have an organization of our own in which to ignore the conflicts and misunderstandings - or, to vent and discuss.

Alas, it won't work. Clubs cost money, and it wouldn't be long before interest waned. What no women? Particularly, no subservient women? Bah, humbug and where's our Hooters?

E. However, there are as Eek mentions numerous clubs all around town that are interest based - everything from bridge to computers to biking or hiking. And from the point of view of most of us, women in these clubs are not unusually better informed, so learning can take place between us, even if venting isn't quite so desirable to the general Thai Visa male population.

Because poor old Foxy has slithered down the pole, and become....boring. Clueless tourist central.

Even Spotties, the dear old nonagenarian has more life in her.

Strip clubs. Rarely see women there, apart from those that work there of course.

Edit: Eh should have read past the ffirst page before posting...

well said NancyL; yes it stinks of Western male arrogance. It seems so many "old farts" come here and think it is "their" city, and they have the right to choose who comes in.

why dont you "old farts" make your weekly meeting in the park then you can have every bird eating from your hand.

This post reflects rather well the reason why many men like to have their own clubs.

If one was politically incorrect it would be easy to throw terms like 'western male arrogance' around with ease. Of course, one would hope that people using such terms would frown upon political correctness.

If i am to understand correctly, the reason many men want, and have, gentlemen's clubs is so that they can get out of family mode and/or get away from other families. I mean that married men like the chance to just be themselves rather than attending to their family mode of living, and single men like the chance to not be surrounded by families and family focus.

I think the underlying wish is simply to have some to time to oneself, to give time to oneself, rather than always be in family mode, or 'subjected' to family mode.

So perhaps the modern day gentlemen's clubs could be something rather more like a 'no family' club. Then it would simply be men and women, no children, no mums, and no dads. Just adults taking time off from family mode and/or getting away from other families.

hey: I dont mind courting contraversy on any topic on this forum. Everyone has an opinion, right or wrong to anyone else.

On this subject, and with my experience in the city that the old fart brigade do like to think it is their city and anyone not in their clique is an outsider.

I like to think I am new generation; but a long long chalk from being politically correct; but i detest arrogance, a powerful and damning trait in farang; but especially in Thailand I cannot abide anyone who still regards women, subserviants, children, taxi drivers, bar staff as second class citizens.

If you want to carry on like that, get out or make the effort to integrate with everyone. you have your "clubs" they are down Loy Kroh.

Hopefully I have at least another 25yrs plus here and by that time attitudes will have mellowed and most of you lot are already pushing up the daisies.biggrin.png

Winnie don't be put off by this rant by someone who can't even spell 'controversy' - there are women's clubs, gay clubs and football clubs - nothing wrong with it
