If that is your only card and you do not want to set up another account in reserve, then Traveller's cheques as a back up would be a wise move.

You should have no problem using your card, but cards can get damaged, swallowed or lost. :D

I have a RBS a/c as well and YES you can use them in most bank ATMs anywhere..including Patti but they will charge you (rbs)anything up to £7-50 to withdraw a hundred quid :D

Do yourself a favour and open up a N/w a/c flexi ..asap and you withdraw your money and keep the lot of it...for yourself.

By brother is one of the top managers in the outfit and even he............

Re: .Losing the card...Dont get Pizzed or talk to any body you dont know..

...only jockin... :o

I always have a couple of AMEX T.Cs stashed away somwhere when travel anywhere just in case but never needed.....

I have a BANK OF SCOTLAND Debit Card and I use it throughout Thailand. I have never had a problem using it here and I am charged only £1-50 for each withdrawal, whatever the size.

Traveller's cheques are the safest back-up but take into account where you plan to go. If you plan to go into the "jungle" where ATMs and banks are rare species then have some baht in your pocket. However, you can always track down a 7 -11 Minimart and they all seem to come with an ATM attached these days.

..just don't bring Scottish Pounds...they don't take monopoly money at the exchange  :D

I have changed £100 notes all over the place but must admit that I have never tried in LOS yet..maybe next time :o

If you get travelers checks for free then that's the way to go as you will get a better exchange rate. Otherwise bring cash with your atm card. You can use a visa cherge card for back up if you have one.

Bring two ATM cards in case one gets swallowed by the Atm.I opened another account at my Bank so I could get a Solo card, having a switch card already.I found I was charged 1and a half % at the ATM.
