Should I Go To Pattaya Also?

I will visit Thailand alone from 16-20 Jan,2006.

I haven't been there before. I really need you help.

My flight will landed about 8pm in the morning on 16 Jan.

Is there any problem to fly without visa? (chinese citizen with U.A.E. resident visa)

I will fly without return ticket. because i will buy another ticket from BKK to Jinghong of China (by bangkok air). is it ok to go like that?

Pls give me some information for booking hotel:

Might stay in Holiday inn solim bkk. Have you been that hotel before?

If I book it 14 days before my trip. it's US65. (is it good offer?)

what are most interesting things to see in bkk?

I more prefer Nice Local Market, Night Life, thai food, thai massage, sauna, shopping....

do you think it's good to visit pattaya also? what can i do there?

Your budget will determine how much you can spend per day. In Bangkok you can find hotels for around $10 per night on up. You can get an AirCon hotel room, with TV, Hot Water, etc. for around 1000 baht ($25 U.S.) If $65 a night fits with your budget go for it. (My budget in Thailand is around $10 to $18 per night, AirCon, private toilet, HW, etc.)

You may have a bigger problem than hotel prices. If you are a citizen of China you will be scrutinized more closely than someone from Britain, the U.S. or Canada. There are a lot of contract workers that come to Thailand from China - too many of them (according to Thailand) overstay their visa and do not return to China! I have never been asked for proof of a return ticket - you might have to respond to that question.

You have to check with the Embassy of Thailand or their consulate to see what special requirements people from China may have on entering Thailand. Britain, America, Canada and lots of Western nations can stay for 30 days without any special visa or paying any money.

Pick up a Travel Guide, Lonely Planet is a pretty good choice, and see what interests you. Pattaya is a little cheaper than Bangkok. There is a beach, lots of bars, modern malls, people's markets, lots of vendors. Pattaya is a good place to go for a vacation and to have some fun - and it is cheaper than Bangkok. AirCon hotels in Pattaya can be found around 300 to 600 baht. Restaurants and transportation are cheaper too!

You first have to see if Chinese citizens require special visas ahead of time.

Well, if you enjoy hookers and fat guys with speedos, than Pattaya is your place. If you are looking for a nice beach, try Koh Samet, or Rayong, or fly down south.

Anyway back on topic...................OP you are going to need to apply for a single entry tourist visa from the nearest Thai Consulate/Embassy to where you are staying.............without one and with no onward ticket you could be refused boarding at check-in by your carrier.

Best to play safe and get the Visa.

Geraint, as brit. says not worth going to Pattaya as have everything you want in Bangkok for 4 days stay. Search the web.

Does it confuse Immigration when travelling to be a chinese citizen, have U.A.E residency and have a Welsh name.

For what it is worth, Pattaya is an unapproved destination for Chinese nationals. I wish I could provide a reference, but this was in news story several years ago. Apparently the Chinese govt took a look at what nationals were doing in Pattaya and didn't really like what they saw.

My budget is about $100-150 per day. I am not sure about hotels over there. I just need a nice and comfortable hotel. maybe 3 stars hotels in good location for night club and shopping area. can you recommend some?

Regarding entry visa, I had chinese friends whom went to thailand from dubai without visa so I don't think there will be any problem with this. but I am just not sure about going without return airticket.

(I might book flight ticket from bkk to china through internet. then at least i can approve that if they check.but I might plan to stay thailand longer. maybe from 16-23) do you think is it much better?

then i might also have time to spend a few days in Pattaya.....

I was forgetting when i posted earlier that you are a Chinese Citizen (guess the name threw me.....LOL).

Chinese citizens are not on the list of tourist exempt countries....see below......you can however apply for a visa upon arrival if your visit is less than 15 days....you will need an onward ticket though.

Most airlines prior to boarding to thailand require r/t ticket or proof of onward travel.

Pattaya is close to BKK. You can go on the bus in 2.5 hours.

If you don't like it you can go back to BKK same day.

Bus fare is 110baht each way.

As i said before one of the requirements for a visa upon arrival (in your case) or for those people from one of the 40 countries eligible for a 30 day stay without visa is to have an onward ticket...............

If the airline were to allow you to board without an onward ticket and Immigration at Bangkok airport asked to see it then the airline would be fined and responsible for taking you back from where you came.

Even if you were allowed to board the aircraft my guess is that with you applying for a visa on arrival then Immigration will ask to see proof of onward travel.................if you dont have any such proof you could be in all sorts of problems.

Way i see it you have 2 choices,

1. Obtain an onward (air) ticket and apply for a visa upon arrival (15 days stay)

or

2.Apply for a single entry tourist visa at the local Thai Embassy/Consulate to where you are staying, if you have a tourist visa in your passport then the airline will carry you without proof of onward travel and the chances of been asked to show proof at Bangkok airport are extremely slim...........this visa would give you a 60 day stay if needed.

Since you got the bucks - if you stay in Bangkok take a look at the Landmark Hotel on Sukhumvit. It's close to the Skytrain for easy transportation to many areas of Bangkok. Check out the Nana Entertainment Complex/Center on Sukhumvit Soi 4, it's like a cheaper Patpong without the hassle.

Or

You can arrange a Limo to take you to Pattaya from the airport if you like. In Pattaya stay in the Mariott Hotel, formerly the Royal Garden Hotel. This Mariott is attached to a huge mall, close to walking street, and lots of other bars and restaurants within a short walk. Beach Road on one side and Pattaya 2nd Road on the other side.

Thanks for your suggestion, I just update.

1)to apply thailand tourist visa here also need return ticket,hotel confirmation.so my friend already bought a ticket( bkk-Jinghong) and sent to me by express.

I don't think that will be any problem for my entry as on arrival visa. and i will be there less then 15days anyway.

2)dubai-bkk ticket to be confirmed soon, but still thinking about which hotel is good for me. Landmark(about $110),Holiday Inn($65)....?maybe it's better go for a hotel less than $50. because I will be there about 7 days now. i will stay in bkk for a few days and 2 or 3 days in pattaya.do i also book hotel over there, before i leave here? any idea about that?

If your coming to Pattaya about 23rd Jan it would be a good idea to book first..............it can be still quite busy then.

As for a hotel in Pattaya, depends how much you want to spend at $US100-150 a night you could stay at the Marriott right in the middle of Pattaya and with all the fast food joints etc, attached to it in a shopping complex.

For something a little cheaper but still a good hotel try here,

Another option would be The Welcome Plaza..............but really there are so many to choose from and if you are only staying 2-3 days then either of the aforementioned would suffice..........both Lek and Welcome are within 2 minutes walk of the Marriott.
