I have satelite tv from Dynasat. It's a fillipine tv company. It cost me 21k with no monthly payments. It has failed a couple of times, but they come out quickly and get me back on track. I get all the movie channels and Espn, Star sports etc.

I wouldn't be without it now. I still have BTV as well, for the wife. She likes the thai stuff. It's every bit as good as Ubc.

Simbo,

Where did you purchase your system? When it has failed who come out to repair the system?

The "Jsat system" is not a system per se,

They are just a company who installs sattelite dishes and receivers.

On of those receivers just happens to pick up the Phillipine version of UBC.

This system is available from pretty much any satellite shop.

Thing to remember is that it's not quite legal (so we're not supposed to discuss it here :o ) and as a result these systems carry no guarantee whatsoever (on the Phillipine part I mean).

They can change their systems in the Phillipines anytime, rendering your system usable only for the free channels!

To answer the OP, yes, the jsat people are quite reliable, and will help you out when any problems arise (i.e. when your receiver needs an "update")

Even without the Phillipine thingy, they still have one of the best technical support teams, their receiver firmware (is where all sattelite locations, and their channels are stored) is probably the most comprehensive to be founf in Thailand.

They also run a forum on their website, so you always have an idea whats going on...

They have also a small office in the soi of sin in Pattaya (soi 6) so easy to contact them...

A number of people have bad experiences w/ jsat in particular. I know a condo building whose owners, after much frustration, had to drop jsat in favor of another shop. I won't mention the name lest I be accused of spamming.

Satellite TV is not really that reliable either. Every few months you need to upgrade your box or even get a new box to handle the changed encryption codes. You might have weeks of downtime. If you can get by w/ BTV or Sophon, do that.

To summarise with what I have read and have personal experience with:-

Despite the cost UBC is the way to go due to both reliability and Thai subtitles.

Other options don't appear to be able to provide same level of service?

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Cheers

I totally agree with you. Once upon a time I would never have considered having UBC installed as I thought it to be rather expensive for what it was. But that was when Sophon was worth watching, back in the days when it showed live football etc, legally or otherwise. My annual subscription to them is due for renwal in 3 months time and I probably won't bother.

The quality of UBC service and reception is very good, except during thunderstorms, and there's always something worth watching. It also gives peace of mind to know that their broadcasts are legal, so there's no danger of a UBC issued smartcard being zapped halfway through a film or sporting event, so long as your subscription is up to date.

If someone tried to sell me a dubious satelite system, one that sounds too good to be true, and probably is, then I would take some convincing.

I have had ubc but they put up the monthy fees so i went and bought jsat its just as good and it was 6 months before i needed a upgrade which was free. It costs you about 24000 baht a year for ubc. I paid 25,000 to install jsat so in 1 year its is paid for and all my channels are free from that time. :D If in the future there is a change then you can always go back to ubc as you just get a card that is installed in your set top box as your jsat will still be able to get ubc. The down side of jsat is that the signal is not that strong for the philippine channels so it goes off in the rain & the sports channels like star sports & espn is from the philippines so it does not have all the live games on a sat like ubc does. :D But it all comes down to cost :o
