Hi All,

My Thai girlfriend was very recently diagnosed with psychosis and stayed in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital ward 6 a for a couple of days. She is now an outpatient and her doctor expects that she will continue to improve. But she's a handful in that I have accompany her around the condo, encouraging and coaxing and she is not supposed to go out for a couple of weeks. To help share the load and to give me a break so I can go shopping, etc, I need a caregiver to stay with us during the day (say six days a week from 9 am to 6 pm or later), to be her friend and help her with her domestic chores and tv watching and introduce an element of calm "normalness". So this caregiver should be really solid and honest. I would continue to administer her meds.

I need this person to start helping on Sunday or Monday, initially for one month. I would be willing to pay 10,000 Baht a month.

Please pm me with your suggestions and references.

Thanks,

NewGuy

You are more likely to find help on this from the general Topics forum, or even the Pattaya forum, where I assume you live, as not that many people read the 'medical' forum.

However, with a wider audience, you must be prepared for a a certain degree of 'trollish' posts....

Its absolutely none of my business, but I will just make two comments.

A huge number of Thai women are thought by westerners to be 'psychologically unsound' but much of it is down to cultural and reasons other than mental health problems. I am not suggesting that your girl friend is one of these, but you would do well to dwell on this, and maybe cross check her behaviour with others who have Thai/farang relationships.

Personally, the last place on this planet I would go to seek psychiatric help would be Bangkok Pattaya, but maybe that is just me. But please be aware that they are to geared to maximise their earnings and profit and the 'Hippocratic oath' is thought to be swearing at hippopotamuses....

Anyway, I wish you good luck for the future.

I agree. Taking her to BPH is the wrong move. They are out for money and nothing else. She would be better off in Queen Sirikat in Satahip.

I took my 83 year old dad into BPH and they diagnosed him with everything from Dimentia to OCD when if fact he was just suffering from being old and forgetfull. We dealt with it up until he died at a ripe 84 however BPH would have put him on so many pills etc. it would have broke him or drove him crazy.

A Thai hospital would know your gf's symptoms much more clear and be able too treat her accourdingly for little money. Can look in the Pattaya Mail newspaper (or others) there is always woman looking for 10k per month for this type of work or even put an ad on craigslist (check the ads on there now) Most hospitals in Pattaya have nursing students and nurses looking for part time work so you can ask there also.

That's what I would suggest too. Also be prepared to accept less than full time...just a few hours weekly so you can get some break time.

Having a nurse available for when you do go out is a good idea.

Thanks posters. I'm in luck. I woke up this morning to find daughter-in-law and grand daughter sleeping on the floor; perhaps here for the long haul, I don't know. I spoke to my daughter, who is working in the mental health care field, and she told me my girlfriend's meds and dosages were appropriate.
