Can someone recommend a hotel in Phuket (Patong Beach Area) Clean basic bungalow close to the beach if possible. Looking to book something for the first week of February.

Would it be recommended to book ahead or would I be able to find something just showing up.

Thanks :o

Hi,

The last time I was in Phuket, I had flown in from Bangkok after spending a week or so up country at Korat. I arrived at the airport with no reservations and looked over the options with the local hawkers upon deplaning. There are a lot of offers and agents for all types of hotels trying to get you to their facility. It's competitive, but for the most part you can rely on them to quote you a proper price and provide transportation to their location.

If you have internet access, obviously a pre-booked room will save you any hassle you might have with the airport agents, but I got a nice bungalow type room right on the beach for a very reasonable rate. No muss, no fuss. Just in the cab and settled in a matter of minutes.

Don't worry about winging it.....just show up and do your shopping.

Hi Marmite,

I am going Phuket in June and am going to stay here:

I selected it just by surfing and have sent them email and got reply about deposit so seems sensible.

Don't forget not to stay out of town as taxi men etc are a big rip off in phuket to get home at night etc,

I know the map appears to show a good run to Soi Bangla but that lil dirt road is a bit dodgy at night.....Not as close to the action and beach as one would think!

Wow, High season and all that will be tough... Have a look at a map and find Nanai Road along the top of Patong. There are alot of little palces up there. Another way is to ask the cab driver going into Patong. have a look at latestays.com also....See what this site has to offer....Good Luck!

I can highly recomend the Phuket Palace Resort :http://www.phuketpalace.com/en/main-en.htm

It'sa very nice and frienly place on Patong, nice and friendly staff, and no charge for a guest in the room.

Don't look too much at the price they quote on the website, if you are interested PM me and I'll see what rate I can get you.

Are the accomdations in Phuket area back to normal (prior to Tsunami)?. My wife & I along with her 2 nieces and mom are thinking about traveling there in April / May for a 2-3 days visit.

Since I've never been to phuket, are there anything interesting to keep the kids busy, Good seafood to eat, sight seeing...etc? Thanx

I've just returned from Phuket. Virtually everything is open, normal and very busy. I don't know what your children need to keep amused, but you will be in a touristy, beach holiday resort with everything that implies. There is a theme park called FantaSea or similar (I've never visited), but would be ideal for kids. They can ride elephants, jet skis, banana boats or a miriad of other distractions. Of course the boat tours to neighboring island and attractions are a must.

Top class, and varying priced, seafood restaurants are everywhere. You will find 2-3 days will not be enough to sample Phuket.
