Mosha Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I'm no expert, but isn't warning people in the Gulf of Thailand just generating unnecessary panic? They have just been talking about Pak Phanang in Nakhon Sri Thammerat.
AngryParent Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Now I am confused. Is it all clear and over or?

meand Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Now I am confused. Is it all clear and over or? I would simply assume the worst and stay on high ground until maybe 930 pm local time. There have been 10 aftershocks up to this point (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/), the 8.2 being the worst occurred about 2 hours and 15 minutes after the initial 8.6. Just wait it out on high ground. Edited April 11, 2012 by meand 1

Northwindhermit Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Regarding busy/jammed cellular/mobile networks during an emergency, I have read that it is best to try and contact loved ones by text messages rather than voice calls. Easier to get through.

ginjag Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 hopefully it could be that the longer it draws out the less chance. BUT if you holiday in those areas-OR live, you are gambling more than normal, If I resided in the areas I would be on high ground, as who knows when the next one will be, BBC world has said all still to be on alert, until a time when it is classed as being safer.

Nigel1500 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The sirens in Phuket/elsewhere are actually sounding? *Sigh* ... no need to be condescending. The tsunami warning system in Thailand is one of the most advanced in the region. 1

DANGER TO BOATS AND COASTAL STRUCTURES CAN CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS DUE TO RAPID CURRENTS. AS LOCAL CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A WIDE VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION THE ALL CLEAR DETERMINATION MUST BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES. THE JAPAN METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY MAY ISSUE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THIS EVENT. Jerrytheyoung Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 from Malaysia (The Star) the informations are height of the tsunami 17cm from one source and 30 cm on another source (Measured at sea not nearby the coast where the phenomenom is amplified) So it seems not so powerful....
KimoMax Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Stay alert and in a safe location on higher ground away from the Ocean and Beaches for a while until the Seismic Activity (Major Earthquakes)subsides. Better to take safety adn have nothing happen than not prepared like in 2004.
