People's Alliance Sets Off Crusade against Charter Rewrite

BANGKOK: -- The People's Alliance for Democracy sets next Thursday to press charges against legislators who approved the revision of the charter's Article 291 to pave the way for a Constitution amendment.

Core leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, have scheduled April 26 to submit the group's petition with the Office of the Attorney General against 416 MPs and senators who endorsed the amendment of the Constitution's Article 291 to form a charter rewriting body.

The group also plans to meet the National Anti-Corruption Commission at 11 A.M. on the same day to press malfeasance charges against those legislators.

The PAD leaders asked the group's supporters to join activities on the appointed day.

PAD core leader Pipob Thongchai said the group remains firm in its stance in demanding a major reform for the country.

Pipob stated the group's leaders have been mapping out ways to bring about change to the country.

He said the PAD will meet its ally, the Siam Prachapiwat group, tomorrow to make suggestions on its push for reform before the group proceeds to solicit viewpoints from its networks across the country, starting in Khon Kaen Province on April 22.

Another PAD leader General Preecha Iamsupan claimed fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra is a threat to the country's constitutional monarchy system while accusing him of concentrating only on his personal benefits.

PAD veteran leader Major General Chamlong Srimuang maintained the group is ready to organize a mass rally against any campaign with an impact on the Monarchy or abolition of conviction against a particular individual.

He dismissed as groundless a rumor that his group will hold a major rally at the Army Club on Vibhavadi Road this Saturday.

That "no" vote wasn't counted proper. They ended mostly as not valid.

Anyway that "vote no" was a real silly idea.

Well there is a coup and a coup.......If there is fighting on the street the army is taking over the streets and the TV channels, and the PM goes to HM the King and tell she need to resign (and she does that because the army told her that she will be shot if not).

I often wonder what exactly are the content providers thinking when they flood us with such news.

How many conflicting news reports have we had in the last 2 days (for argument sake)? Thaksin coming back in a few months, then oh, he changed his mind but it was just wishful thinking. Then we had, give up 49 Billion Baht and come home soon, and NOW a CRUSADE?

Compound the above with the fact that 99.99% (maybe a slight exaggeration, but not much) of the Thai population does not even understand an English sentence in a native context; thus, I wonder what is such news doing here?

At the end of the day, the English speaking readers do not have any authority and ability to react to such news, so why publish it on the front page?

Surely any intelligent news provider would consider what is relevant and operate on such a basis?

When re-writing the constitution does one have to get permission from the constitutional court? If not, when the constitution has been changed who notifys the constitutional court of the new constitution? Just a question.

They didn't get off scot free. Some have been jailed. Some are still going through court cases.

Some got punished. My god they ALL should have got punished for hi-jacking an airport, even the mom and pops. The ones that didn't get punished will feel no problem to hi-jack the airport again.
