Man Who Shocked And Groped People At Silom Songkran Beaten To Death

Why the other medias did not mention that?

The media is tightly controlled here by TPTB, not possible to have genuinely free open debate on many issues.

This is particularly true of the foreign-language press - there are many many grotesque news items every day published in the Thai-language media that never surface elsewhere.

PS Media is already plural, no "s" required.

As nobody seems to have mentioned it, though the comment about the slingshot being sold openly near a police booth gets close, how the Tazers can be sold on Silom without any controls beggers disbelief.I was also offered one on Sukumvit road, all quite normal here. Why don't the BIB stop the sale of these dam_n things? I bet the seller would sell it to a 10 year old if he or she had the money. It is just so wrong. If someone is wearing a pace maker and is given a shock by one of these things what would the affect be? I get so angry at this sort of thing. End of rant.

They often sell tasers and pepper spray in the parking lot of the Soi 9 police station in Pattaya. They also sell all other police paraphernalia, clothes, hand cuffs, walkie talkies, gun holsters, badges, and hats. It's where to go shopping if you want to be a fake policeman. It's where I buy my pepper spray whenever I'm in Pattaya. Police are the ones usually selling it.

Gotta love Thailand.

It is a bit odd that it happens with a bunch of geeks attending a polytech school. Don't they usually just build fighting robots and settle things that way? But Thailand has no franchise on violence amongst teens to be sure.

No franchise on violence among geeks either!

"the struggle on the campus in April 1968 had escalated “from cold to hot weapons”, from stone slingshots and wooden spears to revolvers and hand grenades. One group welded steel plates onto the body of a tractor to convert it into a tank." (William Hinton, author of Fanshen)

Where?

Beijing’s Qinghua (Tsinghua) University

Who?

Mostly physics students

So... um... what's the singular? :-)

Aren't pepper spray and tazers easily available back home? I honestly don't know. . .

The polytechnic college students are the ones that keep shooting bystanders and each other on buses and in cars en route to and from their schools... Rival gangs and rival schools...

Something's going on with those "colleges," and whatever it is, it's clearly not good. Really gotta wonder what exactly they're teaching there.

You mean aside from the Thai curriculum? Granted the Thai Curriculum wasn't designed to educate...

Ha

Hehehe...

Medium - Media

Datum - Data

Alternatively on TV it is now common to build a plural with apostrophe-s, hence medium's, media's, datum's, data's, etc. is probably okay too.

A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of his or her learning. Visa visum?

Get as angry as you like, everywhere you see these being sold all over tourist areas, the BiB are getting their cut. They actually consider dildos and other sex toys to be just as harmful to society, which is why they're usually sold together.

Remember, life is cheap here, people dying needlessly every day and TPTB don't consider it important to prevent that.

These aren't actually "geeks", more like future welders and factory machinists, low-end vocational training not academics.

But parallel in a way to the bizarre exceptional behavior you see in the UK high-end private boarding schools ("public" schools), and the fraternities and secret societies in the US, the combination of out-of-control male hormones and a closed institutional culture with its own warped cultural standards can yield results far from what's acceptable by the mainstream culture.

When they're on the rampage you're best advised to stay far away. . .

People who are stupid enough to walk around shocking people who are already wet and dripping- and potentially risking ending their lives, as those things can cause serious injuries and death if they hit someone with the wrong physical condition in the wrong way- don't deserve any legal remedy or protection; beating them to within an inch of their lives counts as self-defense as far as I'm concerned- if someone's going to do something which risks my life or the life of someone I care about, I'm going to treat that very stupid person the same, whether he has a knife or a gun or any other potentially lethal object- and that's to take him down as quickly as possible.

It's regrettable that one or more of them died in the process, but still I say it's self-defense- and possibly this improves the gene pool, the social pool, and the IQ level of that sector of the population, and perhaps gives others a moment's thought about the wisdom of running around assaulting people at random. Now what would be a useful intervention from the official side, is locating the place where they are selling those things like toys to those children and beating some of those shopkeepers within an inch of THEIR lives. Just a thought.
