Summer Camp In The Uk - What Type Of Visa?

Featured Replies

We have booked a 2-week holiday camp in England for our 13 year old son (Thai national). The camp includes football training (30 hours), English language study (40 hours), food, accommodation, and some day trips. We will send him there and pick him up.

Now I am unsure about which visa type he needs to apply for. The rules for the child visit visa don't allow study in the UK. But is attending such a short course considered as studying? Does he really need a study visa, even if it is just a holiday camp?

Don't know where you get the idea from that a child visitor can't study:-

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/visiting/child/

"The child visitor category is for children aged under 18 years old who want to come to the UK for up to 6 months (or up to 12 months if they are accompanying an academic visitor). This includes children who want to study in the UK for up to 6 months."
