Three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a British tourist in Thailand.

James Edward Hall, 57, from Sunderland, was found dead in a bungalow on Chang Island's Sai Khao beach on Saturday.

Local police said the suspects, all male labourers in the area, had confessed to beating and robbing him.

"In the interrogation the three suspects confessed that they had beaten the victim in order to rob him of his money," Lieutenant Colonel Supin Naoprakhone said.

Mr Hall was said to have arrived on the island in October and was a frequent visitor.
