Police Officer Accused of Robbing Armored Truck Pledges to Turn Himself In

BANGKOK: -- The superintendent of Sai Ngarm Police Station in Kamphaeng Phet Province has pledged to turn himself in today after missing the previous appointment.

Acting Commander of Provincial Police Bureau 1, Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Toopkrajang, reported that Sing Buri Court has issued arrest warrants for superintendent of Sai Ngarm Police Station in Kamphaeng Phet Province, Police Colonel Pichit Kromprasit, and Police Sergeant Narai Thippreechathorn along with four other accomplices for robbing about two million baht in cash from an armored truck.

The investigation team has already submitted all information in the case to Sing Buri Provincial Police, who are now tasked with bringing the culprits to justice.

The case is now under the direct supervision of Deputy Police Chief, Police General Panupong Singhara Na Ayudhya.

Meanwhile, Commander of Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Police Bureau, Police Lieutenant General Prasert Karnrat, revealed that Pichit has pledged to turn himself in today. However, no specific time was given.

Lieutenant General Prasert added that the implicated police superintendent probably remains in the area to gather the evidence to fight his charge.

Gives reassurance to anyone who sometimes thinks, in a flight of mad fancy, that they might actually engage in law enforcement.

Suspected police colonel fails to give himself up

BANGKOK: -- A police colonel suspected of involvement in the March theft of Bt4 million from a bank's armoured truck in Sing Buri province has failed to surrender as promised.

Pol Col Pijit Kromprasit, a police chief of Kamphaeng Phet's Sai Ngam police station contacted Kamphaeng Phet commissioner, Pol Maj Gen Prasert Kalarat, on Tuesday claiming he wanted to surrender to defend the charge.

Kamphaeng Phet police branch on Wednesday was crowded with reporters, both print and electronic, waiting to cover Pijit's surrender.

On March 26, an armoured truck from Kasikorn Bank's In Buri Branch of Sing Buri was robbed and the robbers fled with Bt4 million in cash. An employee was injured in the robbery.

After the robbery, arrest warrants were issued Pol Sgt Narai Tipprichatorn of Nakhon Sawan police office and Pol Col Pijit, who had celebrated his promotion the month before. The latter was also charged with masterminding the robbery, while the former was suspected of providing an AK-47 to the gunmen.

Other charges included involvement in a robbery, possessing weapons and ammunition in public without permission, causing injuries to and attempting to kill others, and using a vehicle to commit a crime.

Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Pansiri Prapawat said the Sing Buri court approved arrest warrants for seven others, three of whom have been already apprehended.

This is just a ‘cry for help’ form a few poor hard working honest innocent framed police men who only wanted to earn an honest crust 300 Baht a day like everyone else in Thailand.

This would not only solve the day to day crime, but perhaps fix the entire political system.

Currently, money can buy your freedom of any legal problem, including murder in broad daylight. Pay enough, and you can act with impunity. This is not conjecture, but fact and most farang, especially those not living in upcountry Thailand, do not understand because it is a totally different world from their experience.

The police superintendent has not turned himself in because he has gone on his own manhunt, he is in a high state of vigilence whilst looking for himself, when he has found himself he will escort himself to the nearest police station and hand himself in, so no need to send anyone out to look for him, but his search for himself may see him following his own trail into a neighboring country where he may lose himself.

I wonder if they will bother to announce the 3rd, 4th, etc... times that he fails to turn himself in? I rather suspect that this story has entered the 'fade away and never be heard from again' stage, like the 10's of millions of baht that were found in the Transport Asst. Secretary's house!

I think you stay Thailand long time..... I was just thinking the same thing a few days ago about the Transport Secretary with his boxes of money, and why such a significant story simply faded away. Guess he must have made the correct distribution of money to the correct people, and now all is fine. And you are correct about this guy. I think he will do a runner to Cambodia for a couple of months, and when he comes back the entire story will be gone and forgotten, replaced by a new story of corrupt police.

Does it take an efficiency expert to tell the BIB that it is much better to go to a suspect's home/workplace and arrest him, than to cordially invite him down to the station to be arrested, and then spend the next 6 months hunting him?

Would this interfere too much with their extracurricular activities?

This is the first time in years, that I can recall hearing about a police officer getting arrested. Does anyone think he will serve jail time? Thailand has one of the worlds laziest anti corruption policies. One would suggest the police here are above the law.
