I have been married to a Thai man for the last 6 years. IN the last 2/3 years he developed a very bad drug problem and became very violent, suffers pretty bad from psychotic episodes . I left him several months ago and have returned to my own country as I'd had enough. Wondering about how to go about divorcing him ., Don't want to return to Thailand if possible as situation was too dangerous before. Any advice on what I could do?

If he agrees, the simplest, easiest and cheapest option would be to simply divorce in Thailand at any amphur.

If not, as I guess the case will be, you will have to divorce in your own country under your own countries laws. You will have to talk with a lawyer or legal advisor in your own country about what is the best.

A divorce in Thailand is also possible, but would involve a few trips to Thailand, if your husband is unwilling to divorce.

Advice,

My wife left the u.k 2 years ago and i havent heard from her since, however only yesterday after all this time she phoned me, she said she is with someone new and has been to his country (wales) on two occassions on holiday visas, we did not sign any divorce papers can she still go through with the divorce even tho i have not signed anything ? she also mentioned she has just completed a english language test which she has just passed, i was thinking in order for her to go to her new partners home country should she not have already completed her english test paper? any advice would be greatful. There is a possibility she has obtained a court ordered divorce without your knowledge by claiming she doesn't know where you are or live.

refer to this link http://thailawonline.com/en/family/divorce-in-thailand/how-to-divorce.html

Once the court issues a decree that decree is taken to the Umphur where the court decree is used as authority in lieu of your signature.

Per above, she can still file for divorce. (Although strictly speaking I believe only the spouse that has been deserted can file for divorce).

A divorce in Thailand is cheap and seems the best way out.

To go on holiday no English test is required as far as I know, only for settlement.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your replies, iam over the moon if everything she has done is above board and kosher, and iam genuinely happy for her, she did say she would be looking for work when she arrived in wales etc, etc, so as mario has stated she may well be going there to settle, I will also check out the link Farma has sent me.

Thanks folks.
