[Myanmar] Burma Reforms Need World Support: Parliamentary Body

The Geneva-based International Parliamentary Union has called on the international community to support Burma’s transition to parliamentary democracy. In a press release issued following a 10-day needs assessment conducted earlier this month, the IPU noted that though current reforms were initiated by the government, the Parliament was also emerging as a driver of change in the country. Among more than 50 recommendations, it urged a review of the composition of Parliament, which currently includes 25 per cent of non-elected members appointed from the military.
