Australia’s foreign minister says he hopes to invite Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi to come to Australia when he visits her country next week. Bob Carr told reporters in the Australian capital of Canberra on Thursday that his department is “still looking at prospects†for an Australian visit. Carr said he will make an announcement on an invitation in Rangoon next week. Suu Kyi arrived in Thailand on Wednesday on her first overseas trip in 24 years. Carr will visit Burma from Tuesday to Friday next week.—AP
