A small powerful group of unusually wealthy army generals and high level friends is who

They pay lip service to democracy(PAD) but bring out the tanks every few years to keep their grip.

They are People Against Democracy, no?

You said it: "NO".

Not to forget that Thaksin told that Democracy is just a tool to get power. And that he won every election only with massive vote buying and fraud.

That's nothing better than a military government.

Some fake elections doesn't mean democracy....Also North Korea has elections, but no one would call them democracy....Thaksin told several times that he wants a 1 party system (like East Germany had)

The old worn out vote buying excuse used by sore losers.

Thaksins too smart to pay for a landslide.

So you are saying there wasn't massive vote buying, no organized voting where labor from large companies were brought with buses, handed out the money, let them vote and brought them back to the company?

Really everyone who is living in Thailand has first, or at least second hand experience.

And if there is such massive vote buying an election is not democratic and not valid. There is ABSOLUTE no argument that makes vote buying acceptable.

And Thaksin would not pay, if he could win without payment.

a) Thaksin was banned from politic and his brother in law was just Thaksins placeholder which is illegal

cool.png There was massive vote buying from the PPP and electoral fraud and the PPP also got dissolved for it.

If you get dissolved for electoral fraud, than you were in power by illegal means, isn't it?

Samak formed a coalition government on the 29th January 2008. The PAD invaded Government House on the 26th August 2008. Samak stripped of Premiership due to conflict of interest (the cooking show incident) on the 9th September 2008. Senior Deputy PM Somchai was nominated as the partys choice for PM and beat Abhisit in the vote by the National Assembly. He became Prime Minister on the 17th September. The PPP were dissolved on 2nd December 2008.

Does this help?

Yes, and? Somchai was chosen by Thaksin because Samak didn't follow him.

What? Samak was thrown out of office after being found guilty of "a conflict of interest" Somchai was Senior Deputy Prime Minister. It follows that if the PM is stripped of his premiership, who is likely to take his place? Just perhaps, it might be the Senior Deputy Prime Minister?

He is also Thaksins brother in law. Apart from on the TV Forum I don't believe that this is an illegal act -

"his brother in law was just Thaksins placeholder which is illegal"

Where do you get this stuff?

more casual lies? Samak could have been re-appointed.

"On 10 September 2008, however, the PPP shied away from their earlier statement they would renominate Samak and was apparently looking for an alternative candidate instead;[42] with the new PM then scheduled to have been nominated on 12 September 2008."

But he knew he was dying, so he made the decision to enjoy his retirement.

CONTROVERSIAL BILL

Protesters seal off access to Parliament

BANGKOK: -- Lawmakers were denied access to the Parliament on Friday by anti-government protesters rallying outside Parliament to oppose the reconciliation bills expected to be considered today.

The yellow shirts led by the People's Alliance for Democracy joined up with the multicoloured shirts led by Tul Sitthisomwong insealing the Kan Ruen intersection on Rajvithee Road, the only access route to the Parliament.

Abhisit said the Democrat party would fight against the illegitimate move to enact the bills and would do its utmost to oppose the bills.

He said his party would like to call people who love justice to express their views under the law, to show that the people and society did not want the proposed bill.

So we have the out on bail for a 20 year fraud sentence Sonthi's Edit SONDHI'S PAD join up with nutter Dr. Tul of the multicoloureds blockading parliament and now Abhisit calls upon "people who love justice" to join the previous two nutters (within the law of course). Who's he going to call next? Ghostbusters?

No, Thaksinbusters.

The yellow shirts need to stop rioting and form a political party. Take their case to the people at election time.

Unfortunately, they know they are outnumbered and besides, mob rule has proven effective.

Just what the Red Shirts need to do.

No he wanted to be re-appointed, but Thaksin didn't want to.

He was very frustrated about that and didn't even go to parliament.

Wrong!

"......on 12 September 2008, announced that: "Samak has accepted his nomination for prime minister. Samak said he is confident that parliament will find him fit for office, and that he is happy to accept the post."

Mark my words! Nothing willl happen! ( Pheotai dont fail me now!)blink.png

Nothing unusual will happen :-)

A little shooting, burning or coup isn't unusual

It looks like the shinawatras are getting nervous. Thaksins daughters left the country.

Let see if Chalerm suddenly feel like going to Singapore for the long weekend. Then we know that the coup rumor is true.

Stock market is now DOWN 17 points. Wow.

Even without rumors, I'd be glad to see him leaving the country for a looooooong vacation....

Hope he don´t forget his "ear-medicine"cheesy.gif

It is a movement to get rid of Thaksin.

There are right wings, communists, religious people, libertarians at the PAD. Impossible to make a party out of it.

It is like if you ask why Amnesty International or Greenpeace don't form a party and abolish torturing people after the win the election.....

A movement by a minority. No?

Pressure groups aren't about numbers, they are about applying pressure on those in power, and if you believe in democracy, you must believe that's a healthy thing and that they have a right to protest, providing they stay within the law of course.

Bizarre to hear people who have for so long been defending protests that didn't stay within the law, now telling us that these current protests barely a day or two old should not be tolerated, should be clamped down on.

Eliminating all doubt, if it wasn't eliminated years ago, that red sympathisers who describe themselves as democracy advocates don't actually have the remotest clue about what democracy is.

Good post, thanks.clap2.gif

So we're back again to having coup rumours. Will Thailand ever have a chance to move forward? One day we might be the poor neighbor to Burma /via @RichardBarrow

Coups and rumors of Coups, nothing ever changes but the names of the bosses, meet the new boss, same as the old boss..

From your local (amateur) reporter:

I just walked along PhiChai Rd. From the crossing with Sukhothai Rd. till Ratchawithi Rd. a few roadblocks, some razor-wire being rolled up and put aside, lots of police standing, sitting or lying around. Looked like they were bored stiff. Lots of garbage already gathered in heaps.

I stopped at Ratchawithi, many more roadblocks and police from there, but similar relaxed situation. Police in normal (brown) attire with shields stacked on the roadside, some bluish uniforms, some walking around in white T-shirt. Some 'higher' ranking officers talking through walkie-talkies. Only difference with a normal group of Thai waiting was the complete lack of people talking in their mobile or playing games.

Every five to ten minutes or so someone is (loud)speaking, even from my apartment I can hear them. Well, at least they don't go on 24 hours a day.

Since neither are political parties, or represent a majority of the electorate, how exactly can either claim to have won an election?

Alternatively

the yellow shirts peacefully protest when they see someone damaging their country

the red shirts riot, kill, maim and burn when the agitators tell them to.

BTW the red protest in 2010 was protesting the coup of 2006 and the dismissal of the Somchai govt in Dec 2008. Where the big upswellings of anger at those times?

As the red shirts never won an election it couldn't get stolen. You either know that and are just trolling for the fun of it, or you have no clue about the recent Thai history.

What stolen election? TS was no longer legally PM yet refused to leave office.

The students? Young people who's future lays in the hands of all these incompetent self serving politicians who know nothing about running a democracy. No one can deny the flagrant cronyism, affiliated alignments to support One mans dream of complete power. The reds or Thaskin's supporters do not make up the majority of the people of Thailand, not by a long shot. The young people, students need tp voice their concerns. After all what's left of Thailand after this crossroad is what the young generation will inherit.
