Over the last couple of years I have lost two of my whippets - one to snake bite, one to heart failure, and am left with a single 13-year old dog. I would like to find a companion whippet for him, as he misses his pals, but cannot find a breeder in Thailand on the web. Any suggestions welkcome.

PS: I have tried importing in the past - apart from being a lot of hassle it is very expensive, and I can no longer afford that sort of luxury!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Whippets.

Whippets are a great loving dog and I have been lucky to own one in the past. They do operate much better when in company of one or two other whippets especially when let loose for a run.

I can't offer any advice on Whippets in Thailand but I hope you source a couple.

Indeed whippets are, IMO, the perfect dog - affectionate, biddable, easy to care for in the house and great to take for a run.

Not that I am prejudiced - I've only had whippets fro the last 60 years!

I have a Louloutte here who is sort of a Whipped.

She loves humans and will do anything to be petted

With 3 others dogs I cannot give her the attention she need

Sorry to learn of your misfortune and hope that you find a replacement(s) soon. Have you tried all the local dog sanctuaries?

I assume that you have a supplier for flat caps and clogs. Do you have a good recipe for parkin? Just a gentle ribbing, honestly tongue.png .

I hope you find a whippet friend for your dog - please let us know how you get on.

Like you, I have a whippet that I love dearly - and I live in fear of him being bitten by a snake. Coming from England, he has no idea about snakes and my heart almost stopped when I saw him far too close and barking madly at a reared up cobra...

I think though, that he is learning from my soi dogs, as he seems to be a bit more careful nowadays unless my other dogs are attacking the snake - something I am trying to stop them doing as I hate it when they kill snakes.

I often wonder how they know the difference between the 'safe' snakes (that they attack) and the venomous snakes, at which they only bark??

Hi,

I am actually leaving tomorrow for Canada with my whippet. Holiday, showing and hopefully breeding. I am meeting some breeders in British Columbia and my bitch has just come on heat. Crossing my fingers that the end results will be some new whippets in Thailand in a couple of months.

Willkeep you posted on the results.

My whippets are totally fearless when it comes to snakes, but one of them got it wrong a year ago. They have killed cobras before, but the last time one got hold of the tail, and the other was too far from the head to keep from being bitten. Unfortunately, they also kill harmless snakes, including the beautiful paradise tree snake, as well as birds (mynahs, hooray, and waterhens, boo), took-kays and any other intruder..

I think the flat cap/clogs image vanished a long time ago! If you look at the list of exhibitors/breeders in any whippet show in UK you will find masses of Lady this and the Hon that! Whippet racing too is no longer run to a rag, but like greyhound racing with traps and handicaps.

a small greyhound bitch would be ideal especially if you can get a pup.fond memories of my ]penny] rip.

Indeed, but I have not seen any here.

That shows how long it has been since I travelled to the dark dank North. I spent 6 months as an evacuee in a little mining village just outside Barnsley when London was being bombarded with V2's. The family kept canaries and finches and I pushed a hand cart loaded with their cages up hill and down dale to all the local Bird Societies shows and competitions, and learned to swim in the local canal. It was a wondrous time for a city boy to enjoy open spaces and see real animals. I assume that hare coursing using live hares is no longer permitted.

Not only is hare coursing illegal, but if your whippet chases a rabbit when out for a run - that is also illegal! They still run coursing - to a plastic bag towed round a zig-zag course by a motorcycle engine!

I too was an evacuee - first to the south coast, when they thought it was out of range for the German bombers (how wrong they were - the schools were bombed twice!) then to the middle of Oxfordshire, where, as another townie, I learned to love the countryside.

In my attempts to find another whippet I located the Thailand Kennel Club website, and found dog show results with whippets. However, when I tried to contact the kennel Club to ask to be put in touch with the owner, there was no reply.

The owner was given as:

Group 10, Judge: Mrs.Maribel Sy (Philippines)

Best Local Bred in Group : WHIPPET

SPLENDID'S LET'S JUST KISS (KCTH 101111110006)

Sire: SHAWTHING LOOKS GOODONYA

Dam: SPLENDID'S DATING WITH SATAN

Breeder/Owner: MR.SEAN KANPUKSIN

Hopefully Mangotogo will have some whippet pups soon - although a pup is probably too young to 'be a friend' for your 13 year old?

Mind you, it might give him just the boost he needs to keep him going for many more years smile.png .

Sean and Neung have about 30-40 whippets in Bangkok: can be contacted via White Crane Aquariums. VEry picky to whom they sell: prefer farang household. I don;t have their phone nummber.

Sorry the mating did not happen. Tried White Crane, but they had never heard of Sean or whippets. They gave me a mobile number, to which no one replied! Frustrating!

I would then go to the next large dogshow at Muangthongtani: held June 28 to July 1st

There are usually some whippets for sale then: maybe not the best quality . K Neung and Sean will be showing some whippets possibly. But if not ask the handlers and they will locate them for you. I can't attend this year .

Good luck

I live in Phuket, and travelling to and from BKK is not so easy for me! If I knew someone in BKK who was going to the dog show, that would be great - all I need is some method of contacting Sean Kapuksin.

I would get a Thai person to phone the Thailand Kennel Club: 662-5531094-5

ans aks them to get the number for either Sean or K Neung: tell them they show the whippets. There is only me and them usually.

I have asked another friend to get me their phone numbers: don't give up.

Have you had success in locating whippet pups in Thailand yet? My family is interested in getting one but have had no success in finding out any info online. I am waiting to hear back from the Kennel Club but from what I gather they aren't that quick to reply.

I have had a frustrating time trying to locate whippet pups in Thailand, but have finally got the promise of a couple of bitch puppies from an Australian in the Philippines. In another 18 months or so I might be looking for a dog if we decide to breed from them. I tried to PM F1fanatic, who has a dog, but found she is unable to use the PM system.

After many vicissitudes and much frantic rushing around (not to mention with coping with Thai and Philippine bureaucracy) we have acquired three beautiful whippet bitches, thanks largely to the efforts and support of another member of this community, Mangototo
