Never really understood why you didn't play him more. 56 goals in 149 games is not bad. Sure, he wasn't the type to track back and defend, but his primary job was to score goals and that's what he did.

Too lazy. I'd take a player with less talent and more hard graft than a player who does something spectacular when he feels the inclination.

Nothing worse than a player who does the hands outstretched sulking thing when he doesn't get the pass he wanted, and then trudges slowly back down the pitch... by which time his team mates have started another counter but because of his trudging, they can't pass to him as he's offside.

As for the goals. 1/3 of a goal every game is ok, but for an out and out striker, which he is, it's not exactly setting the league on fire is it?

He'd do better in a mid table club where he can be the star and get all the attention, and get more playing time. Somewhere like Fulham would be a good fit.

Berbatov is probably one of the few players I think Chelsea should buy if they sell Sturridge. He seems relatively happy bench warming and can score a reasonable amount of goals.

With fragile confidence Torres starting to play well, the last thing he needs is direct competition that others we have been linked to will bring.

I think how happy he is bench warming is debatable, and besides which, to get the best out of him, he needs to be playing regularly. He's not a super sub that's for sure. When you meander around the pitch as he does, you need more than 10 minutes just to get a touch, let alone score.

I was thinking more if Torres gets injured or needs a rest. I can't see Sturridge being happy playing back up for Torres. And more the point, so he shouldn't being the young player that he is.

never going to happen stevie anyway. Modric to take over for alonso? interesting.

deep-lying playmaker - not that alonso's ready for the scrapheap yet, he's just not getting any younger. that's what i'd have thought anyway. don't see modric breaking into the madrid team any time soon really.

Stevie, don't be a clown, they pay approx 30m for him to sit on the subs bench !

Walcott In NANI out .. your thoughts also not bad price at 12M coffee1.gif

Both potential to frustrate, but Walcott perhaps more chance to develop. We have surely taken Nani as far as he is ever going to go.

Yup also just looking at stats NANI 10 goals last season vs Walcott 13 plus you got RVP with us now and should be a good pair together coffee1.gif

LAST MINUTE BID BY MANCHESTER UNITED

Manchester United last night failed in an eleventh hour bid for Fulham’s supremely talented Moussa Dembele. The Belgian, who ripped Manchester United to pieces at times at the weekend, was the subject of a late bid from Sir Alex Ferguson. Alas, Tottenham offered more, and have all but sealed the deal.

The Guardian reports today that while Manchester United came in for the player, Tottenham clearly wanted him that much more and that the deal is now pretty much done.

Anyone who saw Dembele’s performance against Manchester United at the weekend would have wanted to sign the player for their club there and then. On a pitch full of superstars, Dembele probably shone the brightest of all. Time and again he picked the ball up and simply glided through allcomers. His pace, dribbling ability and shooting quality, combined with a superb physique make him one of the rarest creatures in the league.

We at soccersweep believe that, despite having done some excellent business this summer, Manchester United will live to regret not signing Moussa Dembele when they had the chance at £15m. If he keeps performing like this, that price tag will seem like peanuts in a year.

Wayne Rooney – Should he stay or should he go?

UWS

Eight years. Eight years of wonderful success. Eight years of winning every trophy imaginable. Eight years of being one of the best forwards in world football. It’s fair to say that Wayne Rooney has been one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s best signings over his twenty five years at the helm. £27m. Some would say that it was overpriced for an 18-year-old from Liverpool, especially in the market of August 2004. But that’s £27m for a player now worth at least £50m. A player that has done it all in English football with still three or four more years at the top of his game. So, everything is great…right?

Wrong. His time at Manchester United has been riddled with drama. Falling out with the manager, weight concerns and off the field antics. His future at the club has been questioned several times. The famous transfer request of October 2010 damaged not only his relationship with club officials and staff but the fans. It was the first time he had seriously expressed a desire to seek pastures new and it came as a shock to everybody. The matter was resolved but rumours of his lack of happiness at the club have remained throughout last season and especially at the start of this campaign.

This has caused many fans to begin to question not only Rooney’s future but also his ability. It seems ridiculous to many, including myself, but fans in their thousands have bombarded not only Twitter but local radio stations here in Manchester to argue their case. Some high profile stations have even agreed with some listeners, the most notable being TalkSPORT, where presenter Adrian Durham believes that Rooney has “never done it in the big games for United or England” and that it would be ‘naive’ of fans to think that Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t consider selling his best player.

It is clear to me at least that they do not know the club or the player as well as fans themselves, so I asked my Twitter followers if they thought Rooney should go or not. Here are just a couple of the responses that I got:

@SoccerExplains: “Yes, ideally. While it flickers, he’s probably the biggest carrier of Keano’s burning passion for United and hunger for success.”

@JonnieAshley: “He’s become stale at United. If he wants to prove that he really is world class, he needs to be tested in La Liga or Serie A.”

Very contrasting views. I wholeheartedly disagree with the second comment. Wayne Rooney is definitely not stale. Last year, he enjoyed his best season at United since his arrival, scoring thirty five goals in all competitions, staying injury free throughout. He has proved that he can hang with the very best strikers in world football.

You can say what you want about Wayne Rooney off the field but on it, what he has done and what he will continue to do, is unrivalled by many who have worn the red of Manchester United. He has carried us at times and equally he has let us down at times. But what he had always done is bounce back from every setback and improved from them.

He was, is and always will be one of the best players to ever play for Manchester United and anybody that wants him gone after his performance against Everton are prime examples of a ‘glory hunter’ who change whenever we lose and are looking for somebody to blame. He will go down in history as a legend, alongside the likes of Cantona, van Nistlerooy and Beckham. He will stay, he will come back from this injury better than ever and we will win our twentieth title with him leading the line again.

Should Wayne Rooney be sold?

YesNo

£50m in your dreams....!

Go on then, smart arse...., how much..?

redrus

To me its a question of his age and social habits. Probably gonna be over the hill by 32....so I would guess around £30-35m tops.

Edit: And yeah...I think he's a very good player...but could have been even better if he applied himself more.

It doesn't matter who the manager is when you spend 4 years in the treatment room.

It does seem a bizarre suggestion to be making - Madrid being beholden to play a player just cos they paid 30m quid for him. As if Alfie is getting Madrid muddled up with Middlesbrough.
