Hi everyone,

Like everyone here I am loving life in Thailand, really Enjoying it. I am on a non immigration type O visa (Volunteers, Business & Marriage).

Currently my 90 days run out August 17th the visa itself run until October 5th...

Question 1)

1) if I do a border run on the 17th of August will they extend by 90days or just until October 5th (54 days)

2) I hear that a non immigration visa can only be extended once is this true?

3) related to 2 above if true..what if I stay out of Thailand for a month the renew..as in get a new non immigration visa type O will it be granted? what is the possibility? it not an extention but another type O visa.

4) here is my situation, I am working teaching at the moment not on a Teaching or working visa but my employer can do that no problem but I have to return to my country in October for X-rays if I get the teaching visa will I be allowed to leave the country freely.

5) working on a non O visa is possible - what form do my employers have to fill out?

6) to go self employed, what do have to do, officially speaking in terms of visas?

Thanks in advance.

Big love and huge appreciation to any experts or those in the know that respond with great info.

Derek J Marshall .

1. A single entry visa would be one entry only but if your visa expires later than your permitted to stay you must have a multi entry so will receive a new 90 day stay on return before it expires.

2. The visa stay can be extended as long as you qualify for extension of stay.

3. You do not appear to qualify for such a visa. It is not issued for work.

4. A teaching visa would be non immigrant B and likely only allow one entry - any travel would require a re-entry permit - most people would extend such a visa entry. You appear to possibily be working illegally and subject to arrest currently unless you have a work permit (and that would indicated a valid reason for a non immigrant O visa which you have not mentioned).

5. You would require a work permit and that would likely not be issued on a non immigrant O visa unless your married to a Thai or have a Thai child to support in most cases.

6. There is no path for self employment - work around would be setting up a Thai company to employ you.

If you are on an O visa is it marriage ? Marriage seems to be the only thing you are actually qualified for without a work permit. And thats a year visa , so .................

Whats with the 90 days if your visa is good unti oct what is this boreder run for ? You have to report every 90 but not do a border run so I am confused.

But extend the visa get a re entry permit and then you can come back is the simple answer.

However just doing the xrays here would probabbly be cheaper and easier. If you really felt the need to send them to your back home doctor you could do that as well.

You have to exit country and return for a new 90 day stay on a non immigrant O visa. Only if on an extension of stay would you just have to make address reports at Immigration every 90 days.

I have an non immigration O visa the visa is a year long one that lasts until october the 5th but I only get 90 days every time I enter Thailand. That is why the 90 day thing.

Xrays.. I dont pay for xrays its free in my country, & yes it would be cheaper than an intercontinental flight but as I have no permenant address here I have to follow the rules of my country.

Thank you kindly sir, so if I get an extension I can stay without leaving the country? How does one get an extension of stay? and how many times can one get an extension of stay?

I don't recall having to leave every 90 days on my first Type O for marriage ? I never did anyhow and never got fined for it either.

I got a year long type O multiple entry based on marriage ...... maybe I just came and went at just the right times so it didn't apply.

You likely obtained a single entry 90 day O visa and then extended at Immigration for one year and have continued to do that.

You still have not provided any basis for extension of stay or even having the non immigrant O visa. The various reasons for extensions of stay are outlined in Police Order 777/2551 (Google will find it). But you need a valid reason for any extension of stay and supporting documents.

NOpe it was a year long one I checked the passport a second ago ....... A single entry 90 day would be pretty hard to misread compared to what I said ! ..... It was a year, type O enrtry of M

I am pretty sure I just came and went before the 90 day thing mattered and came back with less than 90 days before I needed the extention

With that you would not have received more than a 90 day stay on each entry - but you may have extended your stay during the last 30 days of any entry. Check your entry stamps.

to assist you, you need to tell the people what qualifies you for an extension, are you married to a Thai, have investments over 10million Baht, or what?

Only if you supply this information will you get clear and concise answers

I am in a fairly similar situation and get confused by the various threads.

I have a 1-year multi-entry Non-Imm O visa which expires next month. This was issued by the Hull Consulate on the basis of 'residing/living in Thailand'.

I am not legally married to my Thai 'wife' so according to the Police Order mentioned above I don't seem to have any basis to apply for a further 1 year extension of this visa when it expires.

I do meet all the requirements for a Non-Imm O-A retirement visa but as I am still working (overseas only, not in Thailand) an extension to my Non-Imm O visa would be preferable, otherwise is a multi-entry O-A retirement visa a possibility?

Would very much appreciate your opinion.

A 1 YR extension based on marriage would require 90 reports to immigration, not 90 day exits/re-entry.

A Non O based on marriage would require exit/entry each 90 days.

As I understand it an O-A is issued in your home country and is subject to both medical and police reports in addition to financial requirements. However, if you get an extension based on retirement, this is done within Thailand without the reports just financial evidence, you will be required to report each 90 days to immigration (can be done by post), if you go out of the Kingdom you need a re-entry permit and the 90 day clock starts again when you enter.

Hull can not issue a non immigrant O-A visa. That can be obtained only from London for UK residents. As said it would require a simple police clearance and medical would be required and you would want a multi entry but no money in Thailand. For your situation the multi entry non immigrant O visa from Hull may be your best option if you return to UK occasionally. You likely can not qualify for extension of stay inside Thailand if working full time as you must remain here 60 days on a non immigrant 90 day visa entry to apply normally. And that would be required each year.

Thank you for the information Lopburi3.

I didn't know about the 60 day 'rule' and unfortunately am usually here only about 40-50 days between working trips. I will try for an extension in BKK and if no success perhaps apply for a new 1-year Non-Imm O multi-entry in Laos as I do not get back to the UK at all.

In the past they often allowed retirement extensions early but recent reports seem to indicate that they too now require wait until the last 30 days of an entry. It is not likely you will obtain a multi entry visa locally unless married (if married Savannakhet would be your best option). You can use normal tourist visas until something better is available.

Posted

The 60 day rule only applies for the first extension. What it means is that you cannot apply for the extension until your last 30 days of the entry. After getting the first extension you just have to be here for a new extension which can be done as much 30 days early or longer at some immigration offices. You would get a multiple re-entry permit (3800 baht) which would allow you leave as many times as needed up to the date the extension expires.

If you had a problem being here long enough for one of your 90 day entries you could get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht) that would keep that entry valid while you are gone and then apply for the extension as soon as you came back using the re-entry permit.

Thank you ubonjoe.

That gives me more hope to apply for an extension in BKK. In another year or two I will be happy to settle down with a full retirement visa.

A retirement extension is what I wrote about. You could get a proof of income letter from the UK embassy in Bangkok to prove your income of 65K per month income by showing proof of your income from working.

There are quite a few people that are working outside the country and have retirement extensions.

OK. I didn't realise I could apply for a multi-entry permit on a retirement visa so sounds like my problem is solved.

Thanks again to yourself and lopburi3.

It is not a Visa. It is a 12 Month Extension of Stay for the purpose of Retirement.

A Multi Entry Re Entry Permit would allow you to come and go as you please.

1,900 Baht for the extension. 3,800 Baht for the Re Entry Permit.

The problem is you must be in the country at the same period of time each year and with your job schedule that may not be an option. For those working and able to obtain multi entry O visa it is often a more secure option.
