where is best place to get the passports ? easiest processing times etc. also what is the cost ? and what papers must we need ?

THANKYOU

Passport offices around Thailand in many of the main cities, in Bangkok, there are three from memory.

One at Chaeng Wattana (Dept of Consular Affairs), one at Central Pingklao and one at Central Bang Na.

Khon Kaen also has a passport office from memory.

Three day turnaround and rather simple affairs - IF YOUR KIDS ARE ALREADY IN THE SYSTEM.

A couple of questions though, where were your kids born (you sound like you live outside of Thailand) and do they already have their own Thai passports (even if expired)?

You normally obtain passports from the Thai Embassy serving your location. You can only obtain in Thailand if they have were born in Thailand and listed on home register or obtained Thai birth certificate from Thai Embassy first. But we need to know details. Are they born in Thailand or overseas? Have they had a passport issued? If born outside Thailand do they have Thai birth certificate from Embassy? Note that if born outside Thailand it is much easier to obtain passports at an Embassy than within Thailand.

two 11 year old boys born in thailand. this will be their first passport application. one 3 year old girl born in uk with thai mum obviously. so not possible to get my daughter a thai passport in thailand ? if not then we can get it in uk ( no big deal at minute) was just thinking it would be better to get all 3 at once. 3 day turn around ? dont fancy running around bangkok for 3-4 days , maybe better t do it then in KK as we will be in khon kaen for a couple of weeks. do we have to collect them or can passports be sent out to us ? also cost ?

thanks again

You can only obtain a passport for the children if they already have a Thai birth certificate. If you want to apply for a passport for the children in Thailand, they also need to be on a household registration book in Thailand.

But for the two sons from a previous marriage there is also the condition that both parents must sign the passport application OR the parent must have sole custody over the children (of which proof is required).

Entering Thailand on a foreign passport requires a visa. But on proof of Thai nationality it is very easy to obtain an extension of stay, although there is no overstay fine for children under 15.

meaning of 3 day turn around: It takes about 30 mins to apply at the passport office. No forms to fill in, they just need to check your Thai ID against the national database, have both parents sign for permission in the case of kids (unless that parent has a court ruled sole custody), take a photo and your done. 1000 baht. Kids obviously need to be there to have there photo taken.

Arrives in the post 3 days after this happens.

1000 baht to get the PP.

30 baht to have it couriered. Unless you want it picked up of course.

Sounds like the boys are Thai born and are your step sons. They shouldn't be a problem.

Your daughter if born in the UK will need a Thai birth certificate issued in the UK by the Thai embassy there before she can even start the process. Best to apply for her first Thai passport in the UK via the embassy as you can apply for the Thai BC and Thai PP at the same time.

If she applies for a PP in Thailand, she will first need to be entered on the house register, and that will require her Thai BC, which can only be issued on London.

You might be confused by all of this, but trust me, applying for a Thai passport is 100 times easier than applying for a western passport. Highly efficient and very fast. You just have to be in the system,

mario and samran thanks for that ,

to make this simple, my wife has no contact with thai husband what so ever, totally does not know where he is or nothing. in simple guys, we need these passports for this visa application. my wife does not have her sons names on chinote for our houses.

my wife states she did not go to court for sole custody, he went away and that was that, she is a poor farmer from isaan.

in simple terms what do we need ?

thanks again

Was she married at the amphur to him? if they only had a ceremony at the house, the mother might be listed as having sole custody over the children. She can get a statement from the amphur where the chldren are registered on the tabien baan that she has sole custody and show this at the passport office.
