Hi guys

About 9-10 years ago I had my nose broken twice on two seperate occasions. I was given a nose brace after the hospital in UK did some bits to it but being 17 I was to cool for school to wear it.

Recently perhaps the last couple of years I've started to feel rather bunged up and have been getting headaches. I've also had problems with a dry mouth and feeling i always need to drink water. Plus my osophogus has felt strange for a while,

However the most recent wake up call was when I went swimming, I was trying to do a roll in which you go upside down and when I came up so much mucus came pouring out. I did this about 4 times and the mucus kept coming but it felt good.

What Id like to know is who I would go to see about this? If so would it be possible for them to do something to my nose to fix it?

Yes both cosmetically and structural.

When you broke your nose there is a chance you had a deviated septum too, and this can narrow your nasal passages, and even totally block some of the layers. Doctors can restraighten the septum, although it's not always a successful operation and may not be permanent. I believe that removing the stints plced in the nose can be excruciating.

The symptoms you describe are entirely due to nasal and probably sinus blockage, and this can effect the adenoids, tonsils, throat, bronchials and all between.

But if you lived many years symptom free and have experienced this as a result of being in a city you might well just have non allergic rhinitis.

Either way surgery is a final option.

I have suffered for years and recently have derived great relief from nasal rinsing, which I am quite diligent about, but I just use a squeezy bulb syringe and saline solution which is easy to make at home. I can't believe how good it is.

But if you prefer the medicine road, then something like beconase is very useful and can be got OTC. You need to allow a few days for it to kick in.

But honestly try the nasal rinse, and don't be put off by the weird and whacky stuff people write.

You need a nasal rubber syringe (as used on babies to remove snot), a litre plastic water container, and some salt. I also use bicarbonate of soda. Use 1 teaspoon per pint more if it does not burn.

Tilt head right back so you are looking at ceiling and squirt in one nostril, don't breath in of course or snort, hold it a little, tilt head to opposite side and lean forward and blow out of opposite nostril. Repeat for other side. Do it at least 3 or 4 times a day.

Thanks mate

I'm gonna try that tonight and see what happens. Just gotta find the syringe, perhaps botts will have it.

Lotus definitely have. It's like a little squeezy rubber ball with a cone nozzle. Make sure the salt is ok. Also forgot to say you need clean water not tap water if in Thailand.

If you wanted too you could just buy bottle of saline solution.
