Ups And How To Connect To It.

Featured Replies

I'm in the market for an extra UPS and have been told that APC makes the best ones. When shopping around on the island I can however only find APC UPS that has power outlets like these:

None of the items that I want to connect to it (Laptop, monitor, modem) have power plugs like these and the staff in the stores also were clueless how to connect those electronic to it. I did some googling and found out that they are C13/C14 connectors and I found these adapters online:

Does anyone know where I can buy adapters like these on the island? Or have any other ideas of how to connect my electronics to an APC UPS?

:)

You need a monitor to PC power cable like the one below. The UPS may come with one or two already. What I did was take a standard power strip and changed the power cable to one like below with the female end cut off and rewired to the strip. That gave me a universal power strip for the miscellaneous DC power blocks. Should be readily available, just print the image below out and take it to computer shops.

Might be easier to transfer the picture to a mobile phone and show it in the shop. Most of today's cellphones should be able to do it. Worst case: if you have problems with file transfer and got a camera phone take a picture of the image on your monitor.

Very good idea and actually what I normally do.

Whilst on the topic of UPS's could someone please tell me because I haven't a clue about electronics, does the APC UPS which I am currently using, have an inbuilt surge protector?

Probably. Then again very few of us can say what model do you have. When asking technical questions, always include the model you are using. Otherwise the question is similar to 'Does my Honda have 2 stroke engine'. :)
