Estate Cars Made In Thailand ?

Featured Replies

Is there any ?

The wifes doing car shopping. Her thinking is that we now have a baby so we need lots of space for his stuff and it seems loads of seats as well.

The current pick is a Honda Odessey import after giving up waiting for a Toyota Innova. 2 and a half million for basically a Honda estate, there has to be a better option.

Other rejects are the volvo 4x4 (although it's probably not) thingy I can't remember the name, apparently not good crash test results. Toyota Fortuner too big and BMW X3 service and parts expensive, are they in Thailand ? Space wagon has been ruled out as well after my suggestion.

It needs to be automatic, I don't fancy driving everywhere in second again. Yes dear you can drive a manual. rolleyes.gif

Preferably not too big. It's replacing a Honda city. She can't park the minivans.

Space for baby stuff. Reason for estate.

7 or 8 seats. Why oh why ? We have one baby and plan to have just one more and I don't fancy the idea of kids sitting effectively in the boot. Although it will be handy going on trips when family visit.

Airbags.

Low enough for elderly mother to get in and out of.

Thanks in advance. I'm virtually falling asleep so sorry if I don't reply until tomorrow.

Any thoughts ?

Honda Freed...but it's made in Malaysia(?)

This is too funny. I have resisted sarcasm. I have raised two children and didn't buy a special car. Agreed a small baby takes up the space of two adults but ....

Yes i did have a wagon but the dog was part of the family before the children!

If you live in near Bangkok. A Skoda Yeti. Big enough, small enough, auto, ....

Jeremy Clarkson's #1 car for the money (in Europe!).

EDIT: Oops sorry just read "Made in Thailand" so no.... I think a Thairung Transformer then?

have a Chevvy Optra Estate, not really impressed by it, but the Cruze is a bit better and looks spacious

I 100% agree with you. Why she suddenly needs a large car is beyond me. She's very protective of him and I think her thinking is she needs a big car in a crash. I've tried explaining, but it goes in one ear and out the other.

She has a Masters from the UK in Engineering business management studying Japanese management. I thought there maybe a chance she would have learnt to be more efficient on engineering matters. biggrin.png

or Volvo alternatives to the XC60 which it sounds you looked at would be the V50 which is a bit small in the back, or the V60 (imported from Malaysia) which is a decent size and looks quite nice (around 2.2 million). Alot of cash but still cheaper than the Honda Odessey you were thinking of.

Otherwise you are back to the smaller SUVs such as the She©-RV, X-trail, etc. Have not seen a Cruze wagon yet but if they are around maybe an alternative.

We only went to the 7-seater at the addition of the 3rd child so you should be safe with 5 seats for a while.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll put them to her.

Proton are meant to be quite good quality now aren't they ?

Looking through car prices in the back of a magazine the Ford Escape and Suburu Forester look like options anyone know anything about them or the quality of Thai made Fords ?

Thanks.

I'm googling the options at the moment and checking the prices. The V50 is listed at 1.8 MB I don't know if that includes tax or what options she's plummed for, but that's 0.7MB than she's spending on the Honda. rolleyes.gif

The Escape Is being replaced. The suburu is going to be expensive for parts etc.

Quality of the Thai made Fords is not too bad, but the quality of the Philippines made Fords is more questionable. The Escapes are made in the Philippines.

I did have an Escape for about 8 years and it was a good reliable car and a good size for a young family. Earlier this year I had a loaner of the current model for a month or two and was not all that impressed. Feels cheap inside, and the smaller motor lacks power. My old Escape had the V6 which gave the car a bit of character at least..

The cheaper Forester (still 1.7 mill) has the 2 litre engine so not sure what it is like. Have to pay quite a bit more to get the 2.5.

What's the She©-RV ? Google isn't coming up with anything for me.

Are the Fiestas Thai or Phillipino made just incase I go for one myself in the future ?

Volvo is a nightmare for service, I remember my wife's old company having loads of problems servicing their old Volvo, they changed to a Hyundai H1

Fiesta is made in Thailand. The previous model Focus was made in Philippines, but the new model yet to be delivered here is made in Thailand.
