An appeal hearing in the case of Phyo Wai Aung, an engineer sentenced to death on May 8 for allegedly carrying out a series of bombings during Burma’s Thingyan water festival in April 2010, was postponed on Tuesday. His lawyer, Kyaw Hoe, said he was informed after he arrived at the Supreme Court in Naypyidaw that the hearing would also include confirmation of his sentence, so he asked for a postponement, as he had not been authorized to discuss the sentence confirmation. Phyo Wai Aung, who is suffering from liver cancer, is currently receiving treatment at Insein Hospital in Rangoon.
