[Myanmar] Oil High On Agenda As Senators Move To Confirm Ambassador

US senators said on Wednesday that they would move quickly to confirm Derek Mitchell as the new ambassador to Burma, as they urged the Obama administration to allow investment in the country’s oil and gas sector. Democratic Sen Jim Webb, who heads a subcommittee on East Asia, said he hoped to complete Mitchell’s confirmation by the end of the week, according to a report by AFP. Republican Sen James Inhofe said he believed that “US companies including the oil and gas companies can play a positive role†in Burma’s ongoing transition to democracy.
