[Myanmar] Burma Clamping Down On Media: Watchdog

Paris-based press watchdog group Reporters With Borders has warned that Burma appears to be reverting to its habit of repressing the media. The group said that despite promises to end censorship, the Burmese government has tightened its restrictions on the media, particularly in response to recent communal violence in Arakan State. The government “has reacted in an instinctive manner to what it regards as the excessive liberties the media are taking and has initiated at least three prosecutions since the start of the year,†it said on its website on Friday.
