I noticed over the past 2 months that Makro has been lacking in button mushrooms variety. First, the Thai A.D. champion mushrooms came out of stock (the big 3kg can, and then the 3-pak smaller cans). Then the second cheapest option (bright yellow/orange wrapper) 3-pak eventually runs out of stock 1 month later. I'm beginning to wonder about the remaining 2 or 3 options.

Should I start hoarding? This is Chumphon town location....not sure if other areas are having the same problem.

I can rarely find fresh button mushrooms in the suburbs of eastern Bangkok, and when available they are very expensive. This has been going on for a couple of months now and no idea why.

i get mine at home fresh.

really? i didnt know they grew in thailand. i've seen a different 'ball' type of mushroom when they are young for appx 80 baht/kg in the market. but not the champion type.

That's what i'm thinking.

What are these tinned mushrooms like, I've often wondered? The imported options aren't cheap I know that.

I suspect the mushrooms referred to at the market are straw mushrooms. They're often used in tomyum soup and I find they make a reasonable substitute for western style button / champignon mushrooms when fresh. Give them a try.
