Bloomberg Markets Magazine has released its ranking of the most

promising emerging markets

for investors in 2012, and it makes for interesting reading.

Under the model developed by Alex McIntyre of Bloomberg Rankings — which takes into account International Monetary Fund four-year economic forecasts,

World Bank demographic data and Bloomberg market figures, among other measures — most of the BRIC nations have slumped near the bottom of the list of the top 15 emerging markets, if they make the cut at all.

Except for one, that is.

I must admit I am investing in the SET (Stock Exchange Thailand).

Some strong companies paying a 5 or 6 % dividend, plus it's a currency hedge for me as the Aussie Dollar is strong for the moment and close to a 10 year high against the Thai Baht.

I agree that there are some pretty interesting possibilities. I think that the big wild card is wondering if the political situation will deteriorate rapidly (again).

How do you do that? (I don't live in Thailand)

Did a little research a few years ago on a Broking Firm in Thailand.

Made a few phone calls, found a particular broker who had enough English for communication.

She helped me open a Thai Bank Account.

Over a few years we developed a business related mutual trust.

Used to just buy on her recommendations.

Now just trade using the internet and ask her advice when required.

Their website is available in English ... as is their research.

Tuesdays Morning Call is available here

PM me if you wish to know more.

EDIT ... BTW IsaanUSA, I only spend part of my time in Thailand also.

There would probably have been a similar article in Bloomberg not so long ago telling you that Brazil was the most exciting market in the world; all those resources and sales to China and dynamic and so on.... Now have a look at the Brazilian Real and its performance this year. Message? Be careful with 'flavour of the month' articles.
