The options are: TOT DSL, TRUE DSL, TRUE Ultra (Cable internet - docsis). I will be using usenet (for downloads) and voip (europe based) to call my family / receive calls via DID number.

I have no idea if I can get Cat HiNet Adsl over tot phone line and frankly, I can't find their internet packes online. I need to visit McDonalds to get their brochure for their advertised packages. 3BB is out of question because of their heavy throttling.

I used TOT in a condo in Asoke and was pretty happy. I also have TOT in village in isaan and I was pretty happy until they removed their Europe connections. Now all their traffic is routed via USA, no dedicated lines to Europe whatsoever. I can still download from usenet 7/24 in maximum speed but I want better routing than TOT offers.

CAT seems to have good routing and peering to multiple locations and True has connections to Cat IIG. Thats why I want to try True, but afraid to be disappointed. I am thinking 20/2 mbit cable internet for 1299 THB + 7% Vat. Although I can live with 70% hourly Fair use policy crap, I am not sure if I can tolerate being under constant watch by transparent proxy.

Any comments?

I have CAT via Sophon cable and I can assure you that their routing to Europe is pretty poor. But that seems to be par for the course for all Thai ISPs. None of them seem prepared to spend any money on international connectivity if they can possibly avoid it.

Also I'm not aware of any Thai ISP that doesnt cap, throttle or otherwise manage traffic to/from outside Thailand, and that includes transparent proxies.

So if I were you I would get cable or fibre rather than ADSL, if only because the connection to your ISP will be more stable. Of course the choice also depends on how much it is going to cost.

Well, TOT doesn't throttle my downloads from usenet or http. Fiber to home is not an option, they simply don't have it. If I get True Cable internet, I need to throttle download speed via router (dd-wrt) to 70 percent to avoid fair use policy. In that case it will be more like 14Mbit instead of 20Mbit, however it still beats 12Mbit tot in price and upload speed.
