Success as a premier is really up to Yingluck

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is getting some help from her older brother Thaksin, but unfortunately, the distance is preventing him from fully serving all her political needs. This is where Suranand Vejjajiva steps in.

All administration matters have been put in Suranand's hands since he took over as the prime minister's secretary-general in June. Apart from taking care of Yingluck's official administration duties, he has also been giving her advice on how she can improve her image.

It's clear that the premier is satisfied and even impressed by Suranand's performance. Perhaps it reminds her of her old job as a CEO, especially as Suranand screens everything before putting it to her for the final nod.

This secretary-general seems to be more in charge when compared to his predecessor Bantoon Supakvanit, who only seemed to help her with documents and budget-related issues.

Unlike Bantoon, Suranand holds a "morning brief" with all units under the PM's Office at 7.30am every day to discuss and analyse news of the day so Yingluck's position as PM can be strengthened. Suranand then briefs the PM about the meeting.

In addition, Suranand also holds a meeting with the National Intelligence Agency every Monday morning to find out what's going on. This initially confused the agency, because it normally reports to its supervisor, Deputy Prime Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapha who is in charge of security affairs.

Other than all this, Suranand is also Yingluck's eyes and ears. He is very careful and tries to keep the government's confidential information away from the public. He even controls how many high-ranking officials attend meetings, insisting that only those who are necessary attend. This, apparently, is a move to block any leakage of confidential information.

In fact, he stopped some key officials - such as the chiefs of the Public Relations Department and the National Intelligence Agency - from attending a recent Cabinet meeting. Also, he has been heard telling those attending meetings with the premier to leave their aides outside.

"Only those who have a final say can stay here and those not involved should be outside," he was quoted as saying. He has also told staff members to remove vacant chairs from the meeting rooms so those not involved can stay out.

Though Suranand appears to be a saviour for Yingluck, members of his party consider him a traitor. When he was a member of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party, he had several clashes with key party member Sudarat Keyuraphan. Then, after the September 2006 coup, he broke away to form Bangkok 50. He served as the group's leader for a while before it joined the Puea Pandin Party. His close friendship with former finance minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who was once Thaksin's ally and later seen as his challenger for the prime minister's seat, put Suranand in a camp opposite to that of Thaksin.

It is believed that he only joined Pheu Thai after Puea Pandin's lustre started fading.

Now, it appears as if Suranand along with PM's Office Minister Nivatthamrong Boonsongpaisal and one of Yingluck's personal secretaries has formed a new faction that reports directly to the premier.

While Yingluck has Suranand alongside, acting as her "little prime minister" and dealing with administration matters, she seems to have left all political matters in the hands of her brother Thaksin and her deputy, Chalerm Yoobamrung.

Perhaps this will give her an opportunity to focus on her real job, so now her success as prime minister is very much in her hands.

Sounds to me like she's picnicking in the daisies while her cohorts prepare to rape the remains of the judiciary and burn Bangkok once again

"Perhaps this will give her an opportunity to focus on her real job......." maybe even attend parliament, debate the government's policies, vote on the issues.

But is her REAL job the one for which she is being paid?

unquote.

What kind of dresses, booths, make up, nail-spa, hair-style etc. (also to visit the flood victims), to improve her success as PM...

So very very wrong GK, the misogynists are the one who credit Yingluck with no ability to do her job independantly and are overzealous in their control her every action and movement. That is they treat her like a commodity they own, to be displayed and paraded around, rather than an intelligent woman capable of independant thought and actions. They rate her only advantages as a facade of aging beauty with no credible substance and her malleability and her disadvantage of being ductile. Having said this it is obvious that you , as well as Thaksin, Potjaman et al display far more misogynists tendencies towards Yingluck than us her critics as our criticism is due to people like you who subdue her

Dont treat me like meat, I am a person tee hee........post-46292-0-53031300-1342085682_thumb.jpg

Put Pornthip in and discover how misogynistic we all are.

If there is a term for the dislike of idiots in positions of power through their family name, I'll tick the box.

So basically this guy is doing her job as PM then. Ah, just love the way PT do things. Love it to bits.

This guy is Suranand Vejjajiva, Abhisit’s cousin. So Abhist is the democrats leader and his cousin is the PTP defacto leader, how bizzar.

Raise the hemline and heals a few inches and bingo - ratings up. Amongst other things.

It's sad when all they care about is how they are perceived as opposed how they actually perform and deliver.

Gambling is illegal so i will donate you $100 if they do not get a bigger majority next time.

If they do, you can donate $50 to the charity of you choice.

Pornthip and her GT 2000 perhaps ??

She's rather damaged her reputation, local and international over that debacle.

About as "forensic" as my labrador puppies.............

Thaksin make a better PM.

Anyone would make a better PM. Yingluck succeeding as PM is as likely as an obese 400lb american couch potato defying gravity and winning the olympic pole vault gold medal.

confusing ain't it? This would be kind of like Karl Roves cousin promoting Barack Obama.

You think that one needs to be misogynistic to rate Ms. Yingluck a complete and utter fraud and failure?

FOODLOVER

He thinks that of any one who disapproves of Thaksins handling of the country.

Sounds like a pretty sweat set up she has. Any real work is being done by others and all political decisions are being made in Dubai. This gives her more time for Photo Ops. I wonder if she has more than one secretary to coordinate her Photo Ops and persona appearances. She should invest money in a real pad and attend parliament. She can have it so what ever is said is heard by Suranand or some other knowledgeable person and they could send her the correct speech to give. That would fool a lot of people. They would think she had been going to night school to learn about being a Prime Minister.
