I've been in my brand new condo only a week. I cook all my meals in the house, and I also clean everyday. As of 2 days ago I started seeing these little gnats. I don't open the doors or the windows, so not sure how they're getting in here. Any ideas on how to get rid of?

I took a stroll down the bug isle at Tesco, but that proved to be more challenging than I thought because I don't read Thai.

Thanks

Jacob

Wait until the end of the rainy season and you should be alright.............thumbsup.gif

The other way is to run the AC full time, they don't like the cold.

Any mosquito spray from the supermarket will sort it out. Spray before you go out and open a window on your return do you have bug screens?or get one of those bug lights (used in kitchens in the west) blue light, that will deal with a lot of them. you can also get plug in products that will do a reasonable job.

If you cant read thai ask, people will assist you.

One of the problems with the blue light is that they can attract more insects than the zapper kills.

Op, are they gnats of fruit flies? Gnats tend to congregate around white light. Fruit flies will hover over left out food and are often attracted to your nose and mouth, something to do with the carbon dioxide you exhale, I think.

As someone has already said, possibly, they are coming in on your fruit.

Any mozzie or fly spray should sort them out. Don't spray heavily and ask the shop asistant for the spray with least odour.

Probably not Gnats, just flying Termites emerging from their Pupae stage and brought in by the Contractor with the soil / mud when he "landscaped" the Garden around your new Condo - they live in the soil and will come out when conditions are right.

I am pretty sure once the initial infestation dies out - and they only live for a few hours - you will have no further problem.

That won't help you much.....we always put some fruits outside near the window because it is so lovely looking the birds eating it.

First a zillion small flies and after some month we had a zillion geckos around it and less flies....

So it balances itself...but of course it won't make you happy to have half the flies but also geckos shi*ting into your food.

get a plastic cup, dump a bunch of sugar and mix it up, then throw in some dish soap. put it in the room (s) affected.

also helps to keep your shower drains very clean, they seem to like living in there.

On the islands we call them dogs nut flys, as they seem to accumulate there or in the kitchen.

Clean bin and spray they will be gone.

If they originate with the fruit then at least you have fruit that hasn't been drenched in pesticide. My wife tends to buy stuff with flies hovering around them.....

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, they are fruit flies. I was trying to avoid having to use pesticides in the kitchen :( that's why I was looking for flyer paper or something, though not sure that would even work...
