I totally agree! The posters claiming 500,000B are not being truthful. That translates to approx. 17,000 CDN. Impossibles unless they are selling illegal stuff. The average would be in the general area of 20,000 to 40,000 baht.

Believe what you want, and some posters are being very truthful and not impossible, and infact when the OP set up this poll he could have added a few more options higher than 500k, and no they are not selling any illegal stuff, they have decent jobs with companies in Thailand..

but while you are debating this, all me to go and get a bottle of Bolly out the fridge....thumbsup.gif

But over 20% of posters work for big multinationals? I'd like to see exactly what these posters are doing for their dough - what their jobs are, are they in senior management? etc...

Bingo.

And maybe I'm being very nieve but what illegal activities would people be doing to earn money?

Boiler rooms could be an example

Kind of late to get on board but I've run into more than a few folks who run online casinos and sports betting sites (not hosted in Thailand of course). No evidence in country so it's pretty much one of the 'perfect' crimes... or services depending on your point of view.

:)

I did not vote but I work for a Thailand based multinational and my work permit says workshop foreman, definitely not earning 500k per month though, the figure is closer to 50% of that.

The salaries of oil and gas workers will distort the figures, it's a highly paid industry compared to others. My company does not pay me anything like 200K + a month, but i don't get the Thai rate and no time limit on my contract. Am sure there are many with salaries of 80- 150K a month with no extras and it's plenty for living in Thailand.

I'm happy for you that you can exist on so little but I have international school fees to pay, which isn't covered by the company, and if I told you what my boss earns a year you'd shi_t yourself, I did!

Or of course he would come back and say he is obviously lying to you...biggrin.png

Believe there a plenty of factions on TV who cannot or will not believe that you can actually get jobs in Thailand which pay decent salaries which are in line with international/home country pay, its a strange logic they apply, Thailand is "cheap" so how can people expect to be paid internationally norms of pay, and gawd forebid even some Thai nationals are earning this sort of money...

Starting at our place for a fresh grad would be 25-30k heading to 60s a few yrs later if any good. We have a decent group of locals with around 10yrs experience that have progressed up the ranks at around 150-200k and those that have held in for the long term are up in the 350-400k range.

I'm amazed at these numbers, 400k per month is USD$155k p.a. - that's more than I earn in Sydney and I'm white collar and doing well. What's the job description of these people?

'Exaggerators' wink.png

I don't think they are exagerating it is easy to make that sort of money.

I came here with virtually no money. I tried working here on local salary working for an International Company 1997-1999. The Aussies were getting paid more than myself so I went freelance as a consultant earning B275K/month. Then I went to work abroad on B450K/month, saved the money and invested it in the Thai Stock Exchange and am now semi-retired looking after my investments which bring me in up to B2 Million/month. Current salaries overseas for Engineers and Consultants are easily 400k per month. I am not surprised that you earn less in Sydney.

I think a lot of people come here and don't earn much or make much, but start to believe the hype of the farang and let it got to their heads which leads them to believe other people can't possibly earn several times what they do; farang or Thai.

The farangs who think this never mix with business owning Thais or well paid farangs or farangs with good businesses as they don't spend their spare time hanging around Khao San Road, sexpat bars or Esarn etc.

Plenty of farangs have a very nice ex-pat package, plenty of farangs have very well paying businesses, plenty of Thais have businesses making more than the above and many with millions of quid of land accquired over the last 30-40 years in central Thailand. Also of course there is all those working here without a work permit making a good western wage working via the net, many not paying tax to any country.

A poll isn't representive of all ex-pats in Thailand just those who answer it.

I certainly couldn't give a shit what you or your boss earns. I am not at all surprised that people here are earning those amounts, my post merely pointed out that the oil and gas industries pay more than others and good luck to them.

Personally, I clicked on the 300-500K mark as that's what I earn in a month now.

But as I'm paid in Hong Kong, I used to be in the 500K+ bracket back when the exchange rates were better, and there are lots of parents at the kids' school who earn a lot more than I do.

Are you joking? Do you imagine for a moment that people like me would divulge there income in Thailand? You might get the odd silly remark, but I don't think this sort of inquiry is going to give you anything that you will find of any real use. I will just say however, that my wife lets me keep my teachers wage as she is very independent from a rich Chinese family, who have there own multi billion dollar empire. Father in law often lends me his privet gulf stream jet to visit family all over the world.giggle.gif

Use that for hedge hopping do you?whistling.gif

You're right, not every Thai are on minimum wages.

Amongst my good (Thai) friends in Thailand, one works for a bank in a middle management position and earns around 50K / month. An other has an MBA from abroad and makes around 200K as a marketing manager for a big american company. The third one is a minor celebrity, appears regularly in magazines and on TV but makes most of his money for appearance at corporate events and product endorsement. He is well above the 500K/month.

ahhhhhhhh don't you love internet... where you can pretend to be what you want and earn millions, in your dream anyway

why not make a poll stating how much is your net worth ? how much you will give to your family / children as inheritence when you die ?

You do know you are shattering a lot of perceptions which some of our TV members have..

."how can the natives earn this sort of money...they are suppose to live in THB 2000/m rooms and eat leaves from the side of the road, this cant be true because they need farangs in Thailand with our money, without it the economy would collaspe and Thailand would cease to exist"

15 people who have time to read this OP earn 500,000 per month WOW that is over £10,000 or $16,000 per month where did I go wrong if I was earning that type of money per month I can think of much better places than Thailand. My nephew who lives in Sydney earns AU$ 20,000 per month after tax and has an exceptional lifestyle so he tells me !!!

I too am earning in this $16,000 a month bracket (outside Thailand) and I am moving to Chinag Mai, so that I can actually see where it goes!

I am one of the lower earners in my Company, so I know there will be some big earners out there, and therefore not surprised to hear 500,000B and upwards :)

Take into account how many countries there are in Europe, the people that come from these countries, US, Canada, New Zeeland and Australia and you will find that these people make a poor percentage that visits or lives in Thailand but of course a Thai wouldn't know about that anyway.

Let me tell you, life is great in Bangkok with my 1,000,000 baht a month and my 15 inch penis.

Width or length?

15 is his IQ score...whistling.gif

It's rather sad when people get confused with the difference between millimeters and inches. rolleyes.gif

Absolutely not ! I have seen the pay sheets and been involved with hiring here so I have a good handle on what we are paying.

These are people responsible for multimillion dollar accounts, have specialist expertise and in many cases if it were not for language difficulties could walk into equivalent roles in western countries. My company pays expats and locals on the same scale so there are Thais making more than expats at the same level of seniority based on performance or tenure - as you would expect in any western company.

You can choose not to believe this - that is your choice. But as an example, take a look around the clubs in Thong Lor or RCA... not all of the money comes from the bank of mum and dad!
