Crane Collapse in Thonburi Injures Motorcyclist, Suspected Cause Ground Subsidence
Picture from responders. A construction crane toppled over on September 12, near a subway construction site in Thonburi, injuring a motorcyclist passing through the area. The incident occurred at the entrance of Soi Taksin 9/3 on Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Road in the Samre Subdistrict of Thonburi District, Bangkok, close to Samitivej Thonburi Hospital. The injured individual has been identified as Mr. Pitsanu, a motorcyclist who was riding through the area at the time of the collapse. He sustained injuries including a fractured right leg and a wound on his left shoulder. Rescue teams promptly transferred him to Samitivej Thonburi Hospital for immediate treatment. Eyewitness Mr. Uthen, who was also riding his motorcycle near the scene, reported seeing the crane in operation before it began to sway. Moments later, the crane toppled over, crushing the motorbike beneath it. According to Mr. Uthen, the crane's collapse appeared sudden, and he recalled hearing a loud noise just before it fell onto the motorcyclist. Upon inspection of the area, it was noted that the ground near the construction site showed signs of subsidence, with a noticeable depression where the crane had been stationed. This has led authorities to suspect that ground instability may have caused the collapse. Following the incident, Pol. Lt. Natthapong Khanarat, an investigative officer from Bukkhalo Police Station, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Authorities dismantled the damaged crane and cleared the area to prevent further accidents.
