No, but in case you're doubting. Here's another photo and they are both from a friend's facebook page living in NY. The limo is being escorted by police and agents.

Just a small point but "agents" may predispose one to think the the federal government is involved in his visit. That is doubtful to me. These are likely a hired security force. Of course that could be Donald Trump in the limo.smile.png

I think the security-guards are for his briefcase, in case he pops into a McDonalds for a quick burger, learning from his previous experience in Moscow. biggrin.png

Wonder will he visit the rice-growing areas during his visit, to complain about their more-efficient farming-methods, which make it harder for his government to sell Thai-rice above market-price ? wink.png

In the other picture you see Thaksin getting out the limo with the same shops in the background

That was said tongue in cheek but I hold both these egotists in equal regard and would not doubt that Donald lent T his limo in order to entice him into some kind of land deal. Both are always conniving something or other with agendas up the wazoo.

Thaksin visits US

The Nation

NEW YORK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has kickstarted his two-week visit to the United States by having dinner at a Thai restaurant in New York City.

Thaksin, escorted by several Korean bodyguards, was seen on Tuesday at a popular eatery Pongsri.

His redshirt supporters formed a welcoming committee and yellowshirt opponents too were on hand to boo him.

One more country on the list of 'welcomed with open arms' it seems. I'm not speechless, but must admit to a certain level of surprise and puzzlement

Open arms? Was the Secretary of State there? The governor? The Mayor? I think not. Korean bodyguards and a rented limo isn't exactly open arms.

Please enlighten us on your surprise and puzzlement. This thread has clearly identified a non-political visa but it seems there are those, such as yourself, who choose to spin this into a political agenda for the visa grant. Why do you think this way. Is he going to talk the US into invasion or perhaps a corrupted US attempt at purchasing Thai land for the purpose of studying Global Weather Change or perhaps Male Farang sex preferences as it relates to the world wide population. Again, what is the source of your information. Just curious.

Comparatively speaking, it is open arms. Take away the wealth and status, can you imagine any other Thai with the flee from conviction thing on their visa application, getting considered even fleetingly for a visa? And it wouldn't need to be a two year prison sentence conviction either. Just a minor traffic offence would put a spanner in the works with US authorities, were it known that that offence was outstanding.

As red shirts would say, it's what you call double standards.

This thread has indicated a visa, but not what type of. My puzzlement and surprise is with a fugitive criminal being admitted into the States. Obviously that's spinning a political agenda.

My source of info? Surely you mean why I am puzzled and surprised? See answer above. Of course it could be you wonder why I say "open armed welcome", well that's because another member here assured me that's what happens to poor k. Thaksin where ever he goes, no quiet life for him sad.png

Matichon is reporting that Thaksin is scheduled to arrive at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, DC tomorrow.

Can't they arrest him inside the embassy?

They could but they'll be too busy sucking up to him. coffee1.gif

To be honest, a convicted criminal on the run entering their home embassy is ordinarily a no no.

Of course we see that the ambassadors have all been in bangkok. Nicely avoiding the confrontation.

They've been instructed a while ago by the MoFA himself. The worthy gentleman likes to take care of things himself and was in the States a while ago to prepare things. Surely one of the top performers in the Yingluck cabinet, even without the feat of issuing a passport from flooded offices. Bravo!

A two week visa is what they give to the lowest of the low who can still visit. The first time I took my Thai fiance to the US it was a fourteen day visa. The immigration lady on arrival actually scribbled out the visa with her pen and said move on with a witch of a facial expression. She obviously did not approve of us as a couple but in we went. If T overstays he will be Persona Non Grata bet on it. By the way, my next application for my then wife's visa for 30 days was granted for a 10 year stay without any 90 day report crap. Go figure!

that's always been a funny incident.

Of note, however, is he's not using Russians as his foreign bodyguards in the USA. ;)

Donald obviously has a very talented barber to maintain his unique bouffant so perhaps he could offer his services to the equally difficult-to-cut unique cuboid cranium.

Did the globe-trotting, limo-riding, high-rolling VIP order the $6.95 Lunch Special?

His brother-in-law National Police Chief was going to make a special flight over for that, but his cousin the Foreign Minister talked him out of it.

There has to be someone in there with the power of arrest.

I am still wondering if the Korean body guards were from the North or the South of the peninsula. Can anyone enlighten me? It would seem better to hire local help but perhaps this is tied to one of the many connections and agendas.

I would guess they are South Korean. If you think it was hard for Thaksin to get a visa, you see what it's like for a North Korean.

Poster for his appearance at a Thai restaurant in L.A. scheduled for this Sunday.

THAKSININUSAPOSTER.jpg

Thaksin is due to appear at this rather tacky place in Thailand's 78th province.

Thailand_Plaza_Thai_Town_Hollwood_CA.jpg

and before that tacky place on Sunday in LA, he's putting on the feedbag at yet another luxurious Thai restaurant in NYC

pongsri-thai-restaurant_xlarge.jpg

Is he on some sort of American reality show?
