January 19, 200620 yr Does anyone know of a furniture maker who has a good standard of workmanship and can be relied upon? I am looking to have several pieces of furniture (actually almost everything) made for unfurnished small home. I visited Chiang Mai in the hope of finding everything there, but came back almost empty handed. Need to find someone who is reliable, not full of unfullfilled promises! Don't have a massive budget, but do want at least a reasonable level of quality, not something that starts to fall apart after 6 months. Some pieces will be made from whatever hardwood is used locally and one or two special pieces from recycled teak. Any recommendations or advice gratefully received. Patrick
January 19, 200620 yr Hi Patrick, me again- Brian, I replied to your earlier post. We also make furniture.
January 19, 200620 yr You might look up Peter & Son. I don't have the exact address but they are located on Soi Mahadlek Luang 2, behind the 4 Seasons hotel (off Ratchadamri Road, near the BTS station of the same name.) They do custom furniture manufacture and seem to have a good reputation.
January 21, 200620 yr Author Brian, thanks, not been able to get online for a couple of days ... I'll call you later. Lanny, thanks for that, I'll possibly be in Bangkok in a couple of weeks so will look them up then, but in meantime I hope to find someone local, makes it easier to deal with as I want to trial a single item and then proceed with others, but am reluctant to get several pieces made in one go in case the quality slips. There is a guy with a shop on Sukhumvit, just after Jomtien, right hand side as you head to Sattahip, sells antiques and makes in teakwood, but looks a bit pricey. Anybody know him? I'm after furniture that is Lanna inspired. Patrick

January 23, 200620 yr We always use a woman at the Sukhumvit end of North Pattaya Road. Her shop is called Bamboo furniture or something similar, but she can use any kind of wood. We usually use teak. We design pieces with her in the shop and she then has them made in a couple of weeks or so. Her prices are very reasonable, for example the last piece she made was a teak coffee table, which is too heavy for one person to lift. Beautifully finished with drawers and seriously thick legs. It cost us 8,000 Baht.
January 23, 200620 yr Author Thanks for all the responses, thought I wasn't going to get any! Have had a hectic weekend, trying to find various bits and pieces, as well as doing some floor sanding. Things take forever when you don't know the best place to get each thing ... or how to explain exactly what you're looking for, my Thai is passable for day to day stuff, but definitely not for building terminology. I'll let you know how things progress and if I come across anything great. In the meantime any further info welcome. Patrick
