Dude, australian isp branded 3g routers? - in Thailand? no way. sad.png.

But there are good news. Thai 3g modems like the huawai 671 are working with the same specs as bigpond is on 850 MHz, have a look here: TP Link 3420 that router should do for you.

What I am looking for is a router that you can put the sim card into not one where you need to plug a usb donngle into

Contact the guys at satthai in Bangkok. They sometimes have them, sometimes not. No price listed, so you'll have to ring them.

Totalaircard also sells routers where you can simply stick in the simcard, Huawei seems to be be the best price, from 1990 Baht (available in 900 Mhz for AIS and 850 Mhz for the other providers).

That Huawei B200 is interesting.

I see that it has a POTs connection, and the user's guide does show connectivity. Does that mean one can make GSM voice calls? Or does it have some VoIP functionality?

Nope - but a good thought though, but no FXO/FXS ports on it at all. It also does POTS ADSL as well. I use them here in the car for the kids and their wifi devices when we are driving (3G/EDGE) , and it works well.

Are you referring to the Huawei B200? It clearly has a POTs interface, and the specs say it supports GSM, although that might refer to just GPRS/EDGE? How do you use this in a car, it requires power? And it doesn't support xDSL. Color me confused.

BZZZZzzzt. http://www.pantipmarket.com/mall/hispeedaircard/?node=products&id=163370

With the caveat of course, there's no guarantee they'll have one in stock but it's a good place to start.

Personally I prefer the Sierra, I think it's a little more elegant and does up to 42Mbps (Bigpond only 7.2) http://www.pantipmarket.com/mall/hispeedaircard/?node=products&id=164171

I saw several stalls in Pantip Plaza selling Bigpond 3G routers back in April when I was actively looking for one. The price was then 3600 if memory serves. Eventually I bought one from this outfit http://www.hispeedaircard.com/router&_wifi.html for 2600. The prices has gone up since...

The advantage of Bigpond is that you can connect external hi-power antenna. For us living in the boonies that might be the only way to get internet to home...

The question: VOIP the question and answer highlighted above in my original post and the one I replied too.

Yes most of them come with a split cable USB power adapter which in my case simply goes to the lighter plug in the car ..

OK, it seems clear the unit does not have any sort of ATA (VoIP) support, but you're still losing me. By "most of them" do you mean a Huawei B200? Do you have a Huawei B200? Maybe you have a different unit?

The Huawei B200 appears to support a POTs hand-set via an RJ11 connection - admittedly this is not POTs service per se - , allowing for both outgoing and incoming GSM voice calls, and apparent;y, origination/termination of SMSes. It does not appear to support xDSL in any fashion.

Sorry for asking such detailed questions, but I am considering purchasing the unit and appreciate your input if you actually have this exact make/model.
